Yup, there's the bounty system and there's SUPPOSED to be a merc. system built into the guild manager as well. Basically, you're supposed to be able to hire merc. guilds to help you win sieges etc. Those merc. guilds can gain loot and tickets by temporarily aligning themselves with you. Kinda cool, and an element of play one could also use on a PvP server for either mafioso "extortion" type stuff and/or security. (i hope)

As for WoW, some of the most fun I had gaming was during the beta on a PvP server. I linked up with a few other testers and we spent evening upon evening probing the enemy's lands for weaknesses, "hacks," little places to hide or break into easiy... etc. It was a HELLUVA lot of fun and these guys even formed a guild off of it. We had our little "posse" and we'd skirmish popular areas in the game and gank people... figuring out how to get deep into their territory w/o dying. Good times. Of course, once the "newness" wears off you dont waste a lot of time just messing around like that... alas, it was just the beta - so a different mindframe altogether.

They talked about the bounty system before actually. Basically if you do certain actions you get a 'bounty' on your head and a chance to spawn an NPC 'hunter' when you enter certain areas. The higher the bounty the more hunters will spawn. So if you do something silly like grief a quest giver and get a bounty of 10g then there's a chance a hunter will spawn when you enter a majoer city looking to collect. Then you can either fight, flee, or bribe the hunter away. If you collect a large enough bounty large masses of NPCs will spawn to try and collect on the price tag. Once you've been 'punished' the bounty is voided and you can start all over again.

No, players cannot participate in the bounty system. Consider it a lightweight version of dishonorable kills from WoW. A penalty if you care about such things, not so much of one if you don't give a damn.

As for the merc system they talked about that too. Mercs are NONGUILD INDIVIDUALS ONLY and they hire on as 'mercenaries' to gain temporary guild status. With that status they can contribute to the accumulation of tickets by participating in seige PvP near the objective just like any other guildie. Merc guilds weren't slated to be implemented or even considered because if you're in a guild already they expect you to fight for your guild.

Ahh... thanks for the clarifications. But, that's not stopping anyone from still starting a merc. guild (just because they cant do it ingame). Matter of fact, I think it's cooler that it's not out in the open like that... it breeds interesting gameplay and underhandedness.

Set up a site, VOIP, etc (even a tax/payment system)... and consolidate your mercs into a coherant unit when needed - that way they're more effective and it's easier for guilds to hire them. (instead of hiring one merc. at a time).

Seems like an alt sorta thing though because if you're not in a guild then the merc business is basically the only thing you've got going for you and only if you're a recognized person in the PvP siege scene. Remember, as temporary guildies if you die or do something stupid then you'll COST your team tickets. Its a balance between quality and quantity and a toss up if you want to stick with the quality of recognized guild PvPers or load yourself up with quantity by hiring mercs.

The best way for us to handle it, probably, would be to have a TG merc core affiliated and contactable through the PvE TG guild. Then we can hire out people as mercs as a stand alone company wouldn't get enough recognition or publicity to function properly.
