Re: Have you Pre-Ordered?
Right then. So what's the difference between Early Access and Head Start? People on the AoC forums keep mentioning them as two different things, both with their own special "you get to play before others do" privileges. Apparently you get Head Start with a pre-order and Early Access if you managed to pay the $5 extra and download the client already, and people are talking about 3/6 days early play time.
I managed to pay $5 and download the client already, so I believe I get in on the 17th correct? In all honesty, this seems to be the most confusing, ill-documented and non-uniform release of a game ever. Every retailer involved, as well as Funcom, seems to be doing their own thing.

Re: Have you Pre-Ordered?
Head start/Early release/Early access - people are using them interchangeably to mean the same thing. You can begin playing on the 17th.

It has been a very confusing release for those seeking early access and preorder items.................. throw into that a collectors edition with even more stuff and different preorder rules (by the retailers) and it's a little crazy to know what exactly you've got without doing a lot of homework. You also need to think of the early access as a final beta test and go into it knowing that there will be some weird anomalies those first three days. Although you wouldn't know it from the jackheads on the AoC forums, it appears to me that FunCom is really doing a lot of work behind the scenes to make the best final release that they can of this very complex product. This title is going to evolve a lot in this first year. I am sure things like the 48v48 siege limitation and whatnot will be addressed as time goes on. My main concern was that FunCom wouldn't get the capital they had hoped for on release to do the remaining work that needs to be done to realize the full potential of the product they have created. However, based on what I have observed - even on the smaktardish posts on the AoC forums, working capital won't be a problem.

Re: Have you Pre-Ordered?
My theory on the pre-order madness was that they threw out entirely the idea of being able to enter the game early simply by pre-ordering. What they did was make it so you had to have a card (either emailed to you or picked up in-store) that you had to PAY for so that you could gain early access. Am I right here?
To sweeten the deal they added more freebies to the early access, in excess of what you got with the pre-order. I dont know why people are complaining about the confusion... Funcom basically made it possible for people to play AoC without paying for the retail box. DUH! It's literally a 10-day trial with early access, where you get special items if you decide to keep playing (once you buy the box); and gives a buffer-time while you wait for your CE to arrive. It's win-win, no matter how confusing it seems. The ORIGINAL purchase model was just like every other game... buy the game and you get to play early, yada yada. They threw that out though it seems. p.s. How do you sell out of early access slots? Actually, when I went to Gamestop he had like a stack of 200 cards there. Are those just unusable now?

From what I've gathered, damn near anyone could have gone into Gamestop (or wherever) and picked up an early access card. Hell, I'm proof; I simply asked "you got any cards yet?" and they handed me one without even asking for ID or if I had pre-ordered. However, they only had spots for X many early access slots; they want to make early access special and, as we all can guess, probably to limit technical problems as well . So even if they gave away 500k early access codes, if Funcom only wanted 100k people to play on the 17th, only 100k people get in.

Re: Have you Pre-Ordered?
I've got my card but using it for my Mammoth Mount. If your buying the game and did not pre-order I would recommend just go ask for a card saying you pre-ordered and get a free mount!

I did this with LotRO. I got 10 days free gameplay and decided not to buy it. Saved me a buttload of money.
