    Beta Speculation - Release? Participation?

    We've just hit the month April and are about six-seven weeks out before the game is pre-released and give or take a week before the official release. So, thought we'd speculate on when an "open" beta (though FunCom has stated it won't be "open" in a traditional sense i.e. limiting # of testers) will happen and if everyone plans on participating?

    Personally, to say I'm anxious to play is an understatement but I'm vacillating between not wanting to spoil the game by being in the beta and wanting to help test.

    I know if i get in the beta this early i would be too dissapointed. It seems like they're still working on every bit of the game. Combat, charecter creation, pvp aspects, questing, crafting... I would expect them to continue working on every aspect but from what i've read, there are still some major decisions going on.

    Needless to say, they will need to start populating their servers to test the stress a good month ahead of launch. If April 20th comes up and still no open beta i would be very suprised.

    I would be happy to beta it either way. It will give me a better understanding of which class I want to play when I start.

    For example, I typically play caster / ranged dps types. They just fit my play style. But with the mechanics of combat in this game, that may totally change. I'd like to explore that before I make 1000 alts at game start just trying to figure out game mechanics.

    Do you have to be a member of Gamespot to sign up for this PvP weekend test? I followed the link from the Conan website that took me over to Gamespot, but I don't have anything that gives me a chance to sign up for the beta. Just a blurb about the PvP weekend, and a link to their forums.

    Yes, you have to be a member but sign up is free. I believe the GameSpot link is not working as one of the devs on the Age Of Conan forums stated they are working on a fix. I'd try it back later.
