Pick a Class!
I was just wondering what classes people were looking forward to playing as their main character or a possible alternate character. So pick your top two class choices. This doesn't have to be a final choice, just a general idea of people's preferences.
For me after playing in the PvP weekend I would have to say:
Herald of Xotli
Dark Templar
EDIT: Heres a feat tree for most classes here. Not that these were from the PvP Weekend Beta and are subject to change. Also note that most of your combos and spells/skills are achieved at certain levels.Last edited by Zoopy; 04-22-2008 at 02:49 PM.

Re: Pick a Class!
First class of mine would be Conquer. Second, maybe Bear Shaman.

Re: Pick a Class!
Initially, Assassin.
After seeing the pvp videos, possibly also Barbarian or Herald of Xotli. Not due to how they performed in pvp per se, but more how they played period. The HoX looks like a battle mage, swinging swords AND casting spells (not to mention turning himself into a demon). Looks kinda cool.

Re: Pick a Class!
Some tough choices after all I've read and seen from the gameplay videos. Of the many things I like about the game is the large choice of classes. Think I'll start with either a Barbarian or Conqueror than try other classes later in the game. I'd like to start with a character that is a melee or tank class that can take alot of upfront damage. Casters are always a bit more difficult for me to play initially as it takes me a bit of time to get a feel for the class. It seems to be less of a learning curve with a melee class. Not sure if it's critical in an MMO but any RPG I've played that's usually how I first create a character.
Though both classes can used ranged weapons (cross/bows) and the Conqueror has some magical abilites. Conqueror can use shields (uncertain if the Barbarian can) which can be used to block enemy swings. Cool defensive ability. Again, tough choices on my first character.|TG-9th| TheFatKidDeath

Re: Pick a Class!
I don't think either class gets a shield. Both use combos with Dual Wielding or a Two Handed weapon. Only the Barbarian can use a bow, both can use a crossbow at their appropriate levels though. Conquerer is more of a tank than a Barbarian (This is only from what I've read and seen in the PvP weekend).

Re: Pick a Class!
What class gets a shield? Dark Templar and Guardian. Hmmm....may rethink my class choice.

Re: Pick a Class!
Yea, from what I've read the Conquerer would fit into the existing idea of "off tank/dps" among current MMO's. Some defensive things, some offensive things, not quite great at either but able to fill spots in a pinch. Barbarian is like a less bursty assassin that can wear heavy armor, and has some decent AOE melee attacks.

Re: Pick a Class!
I think I'll try the Conquerer and/or a priest class, either PoM or Tempest. That being said, I think it is too early to really tell. There are way too many class adjustments which need to be done and I'd be suprised if any of these classes are going to end up as they are now.

Re: Pick a Class!
I really wanted to play as a guardian but after using them on the PvP weekend they dont seem to be able to do anything other than absorb alot of damage. I could make a fight last 4 times what would be normal but i still ended up losing...

Re: Pick a Class!
One thing to keep in mind guys: Some classes will be better suited to PvE, while others are better for PvP. For example, the Guardian class is designed as a Main Tank, which means they can survive a lot of damage and hold threat (what makes monsters target a particular player) against monsters quite well. The trade-off is that they don't actually put out a lot of damage, so of course they're not going to be racking up the kills in the PvP circuit.
This is kinda one of those tricky places where you decide what you'd rather focus on, PvE or PvP, as some classes are going to give frustration if you go into a playstyle they're not suited for. From the PvP beta videos I saw, I'm thinking that some of the complaints about weak/useless classes are more than likely because they're not meant to do well in a fast-paced twitch PvP arena.

Re: Pick a Class!
The ammount of kills i get in PvP doesnt particularly bother me. It's just that i'm supposed to survive and was frequently the last one left alive on my side in group fights and it got very frustrating knowing i was going to prolong the fight but i would still ultimately lose. As far as the polearm goes: I dont really try it all that much but it didnt seem to do much more damage than the sword. the only thing it had going was the reach and i didnt know about the different reach during the PvP event so i didnt put it to much use.
I am still going to end up rolling guardian in the end but i think it's going to take alot of getting used to.Smurfs law - Though Shalt back track wherever possible

IGN have posted 2 excellent articles about character classes that are worth looking at:
