    Age of Conan PC requirements

Hey guys, I was checking out the AoC site, and the game looks wicked sick. I want to play it so bad, BUT, My PC requirments just are above the minimum, here they are:

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2
    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.41 GHz
    RAM: 1GB
    Video Card: 8600GT 256MB
    DVD-Rom: Don't know, but I know it's a decent one, because it's kinda new.
    HardDrive Space: 320GB

So... Is that good enough to play Age of Conan without any bad lag? I can handle the low graphics, because im used to them, but will the game run fine with my computer stats here?

And no, before anyone asks, im not ready to upgrade my computer anytime soon because i dont have a job yet.

Please let me know if i can play, i really wanna get this game, it looks sweet.

I would guess you could run the game but I'm not sure if it would be smooth. I would trust Funcom a little bit on their minimum requirements so if you beat them (even if just by a bit) I would say you could play, how pretty and smooth under high load is a different story though.

I'm always slightly above the minimum requirements on most games it seems. I remember when Crysis came out and I was sweating it was going to melt my computer but the game looked and played great even on the lower settings.

Maybe someone else here can comment on the coorelation between lag and PC hardware. Isn't lag, especially an MMO, based on your internet connection?

in general lag is low frames per second, if you experience a lot of choppy play on your computer its because the computer hardware can't keep up with demands of the software (which is especially true for your graphics card), unless of course you actually have a bad internet connection that can't transmit data fast enough or if you lose packets way too often.

Re: Age of Conan PC requirements

The correlation between internet lag and graphical lag goes hand in hand most of the time.

More often then not lag will be internet related lag. Either your connection is maxed out or the server is overloaded. This can be easily seen through ping though.

Graphical lag is stuttering based on the actions happening on screen. This happens because your processor can't keep up with the data being thrown at it. Of course since this is an online video game your game won't be updating as fast as everyone else if your computer can't update the game world as fast as the server can throw out data. Then you get a what is known as "choking". But then this really only happens when games use a high update rate.

Yeah, there are many more variables with a MMO.

Ok, thanks for the info guys, dunno if I will waste the money getting file planet to download the beta, but we'll see.

Your computer looks fine. Only thing i would put money on is the RAM. Spend $50-100 and get atleast 2gigs.
Heh, i wounder how many new subscribers fileplanet got with this AoC beta.

RAM is extremely cheap right now. I know that DDR2 is anyhow. 2x1GB sticks are going for 40-60$ on newegg.

Judging by his processor I would assume he uses DDR1 memory which is not that cheap.

Re: Age of Conan PC requirements

Most of the test rigs that I've seen beta videos made from so far aren't very beefy at all; quite possibly at or slightly above the bare requirements that Funcom lists. I'm not sure what graphics setting they were running on either, but the play looked fairly smooth in the PvP mini-games, all (internet) lag aside. That's a controlled environment though, so who knows what things will be like in a busy city. I think you'd likely be okay, though you could probably toss in another 1Gb of RAM as previously suggested. RAM is cheap, and can help out amazingly at times.
