TG Server Selection
Sorry if I missed this somewhere...
What server-type will TG be playing on?
Normal, RP, PvP FFA, RP PvP?It is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9/NIV

Re: TG Server Selection
I doubt I'll play on PvP only servers, as I've never cared about beating up on another real player, PvE is for me.

Re: TG Server Selection
I'm not big on PvE servers myself...that's why I asked. I figured that's where you'd be playing.
So you don't attack anyone in Ikariam?as I've never cared about beating up on another real player, PvE is for me.

Re: TG Server Selection
Agreed. Everyone seems to have their own opinions. But i think we'll all go to the same place no matter if it wasn't our first choice or not. That's what seems GREAT about AoC. It's like - You got your PVP ladle spilling into my PVE spoon. AoC is geared more towards PVP than any other MMO yet, imo. If you go into a PVE server you will get plently of PVP [period] But it'll still be totally different than it would if you were in a PVP server. The overwhelming amount of excitement a PVP junky gets from escaping a gank will be gone. Not to mention the thrills he'll get when he's getting his revenge.
Sure you'll get those frustrating moments, but that is what i've come to expect from a MMO, PVE or PVP. Whether its a mob 10 levels higher than you woundering into a 'safe zone' and killing you or a live player who seems to have no morals woundering into your zone and ganking you. You will still get frustrated.
That brings me to major question. Funcom stated that it will not be race vs race. So it will be Free For All? Tortege Island aside, let's say you walk outside the city gates and into the 'wilderness'. You come across another random player, you can attack him? Straight up attack him? No restrictions?
Can someone confim this?
Continue-ing my speculation - the maps are going to be instanced. Similar to Tabula Rasa? So if you are getting ganked by someone over and over agian just hop in a different channel?
Also, every class seems to be able to 'defend for themselves', unlike in many other MMO's where the priests or tanks couldn't match up to a rouge/assasin type class.
All this may add to your decision in choosing PVE or PVP.
All said, i think all we need is a vote thread up. PVP, PVE or PVP-RP? (Those, i understand, are the only 3 types) FatKid can you set this up? Maybe we should wait till after we all get in this open beta and really understand what exactly is going on with EVERYTHING.Last edited by Humvee; 04-27-2008 at 10:49 PM.

Re: TG Server Selection
Yes, I'll try and put a poll up.
However, I don't anyone taking the poll results as: "I'm in the minority, I can't play here." From what I've read from everyone there is enough interest to keep everyone happy or at least make an effort. I know I will be trying a bit of everything.
Humvee, good question. I don't know if we have a confirmation. I'll look for one.|TG-9th| TheFatKidDeath

Re: TG Server Selection
Well, one important thing here is that I don't believe we've yet had concrete evidence on what types of servers there are, and what each entails. Will the PvP servers be complete free-for-all or just in certain areas? Will the PvE servers have zero way of fighting other players outside of the PvP mini-games and perhaps the borderlands? I think too much is still unknown yet to make much of a decision.

Re: TG Server Selection
I thought most of these MMO's you must play PvE to level your character, then you could take your character and do the PvP thing?

Re: TG Server Selection
That's the general idea. But some people may get a little bored while leveling up their charecter and want something else to do. That's where PVP comes in. In PVP servers, PVP is integrated into the PVE experiance, as you can get attacked by random players while leveling up your charecter.
There's no sign that says "You must be this tall to get on the ride" when it comes to PVP. You can hop into the PVP action at any level.

Re: TG Server Selection
This game looks beastly when it comes to PvP, I definately say PvP. If not, then you prolly wont see me playin with you guys much.

Re: TG Server Selection
I personally don't mind too much but I did play Rp PvP in WoW and I personally preferred it to PvP and PvE, but I'll play wherever the guild is set up, a lot.

Re: TG Server Selection
Well, here's the question for the PvP-oriented players: What level of PvP interaction do you actually require?
From the looks of it, the PvE servers will have PvP restricted to the mini-games and the Borderlands. This means that you can still have PvP whenever you want (including the siege combat), you'll just have to head into the areas designated for it. On the other hand, PvP servers look like they're going to be mostly free-for-all except for maybe cities. This means that while you're out there trying to quest and level up, you could be attacked at any moment, likely by people of any level or gear quality.
Keep in mind that, no matter which server type is picked, everyone is still going to have to head out and fight monsters to level up initially; the PvP levels are an additional thing it seems so far. I know some people love the thrill of PvP anytime, anywhere... but it's going to be extremely frustrating when that higher level dude and his five buddies in better gear come by and roll you for the 20th time in a row while you're trying to get that one last quest item.
So, will the mini-games and siege warfare be enough for the PvPers here? Or do you really need a free-for-all to enjoy the game?

Re: TG Server Selection
Being out anyway and can be attacked would seen kinda fun, as long if it was like, a couple level differenced, not like, 10 levels higher than you can attack you, but maybe one or two levels higher can attack. I don't know, but this is why we have the beta to try out the different servers correct?
