    Question

I tried to use my pre-order bonus yesterday and i found that i couldn't just pay the $5 fee for the early access. I had to subscribe to play the game aswell. Now i know i will have to pay to play but i didn't think i would have to pay yet.

This also worries me because i wont be able to subscribe until close to the end of my free time. Am i gong to be able to use my free time before i subscribe or am i going to be forced to subscribe as soon as i use my CD Key? I know no one will know for sure but i know some of you have played other mmo's that you have to subscribe for and i'm wondering what the general trend is.

In general for MMO's, you have to give your credit card/payment info up front when you first install the game and make your account. However, that first month is still free and you aren't charged the monthly fee until your 30-day trial period is over. So you basically install the game, fill out your payment info, and in 30 days you're charged the $15 (or whatever the monthly price is) to start your regular monthly payment cycle. If you cancel your subscription before that, no payment is made whatsoever.

I can't guarantee this is how AoC will work, but that's the typical model.

Hmm what about game cards? If you are planning on using game cards (me) then surely they won't ask for a credit card number.

So they're going to ask me for a game card code one month before I actually need it?

You NEED it to start playing. You actually will get one month free. IF YOU PAY WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD. i dont know how the one month free will work with the game card. But with the credit card, what you do is give them your info but they wont charge you untill the end of the 2nd month. You can cancel your subscription if you dont like the game in the first 30 days (free) and they wont charge your credit card. but you still need to give them the info.
Lets say you cancel at 45 days. They will still charge your card for one month. but you will be able to play for another 15 days.
