    question about ranger

I am looking at playing ranger because the FPS side of it sound interesting, but it sounds like it can get boring. With a melee you get to select different attacks, and build combos. Then with mage you get to spell weave to build combos. Does ranger have this? like aim at certain body parts, or is it pretty much just a straight attack with abilities added in?

    Re: question about ranger

    This describes them pretty well.

    From AOCWiki:
Rangers are the finest marksmen in Hyboria, capable of stalking an enemy and delivering devastating shots with pinpoint accuracy.
From the skilled woodsmen of the Bossonian Marches to the shortbow wielding horsemen of the Stygian desert, their skills with a bow set them apart from other warriors.

With an arsenal of specialist shots that can pin an enemy down, start bleeding wounds or pierce an enemy’s heart, they are difficult opponents. Knights fall to their fletched shafts and all the magic in hell cannot save a sorcerer with an arrow in their throat. They can fight in melee with swords and maces and wear medium armor, but their strengths lay with the bow.

Rangers have a track ability, allowing them to track players or prey in the surrounding area. They also have access to traps.

Rangers have something called a hide-attack. They can go into hiding, waiting for an enemy to show up. If they shoot somebody while hidden, their shot has a chance of putting the enemy in a mezzed state, basically knocking out the enemy so they're unable to move or fight back for an amount of time.

Rangers also have different stances, each providing an advantage for different uses. For instance, the sniper-stance will increase the range of the rangers attacks, while the volley-stance will increase the area of effect damage the ranger does, to great effect shattering-stance grants all of the Ranger’s attacks a chance to knock down their target as well as damaging nearby hostiles. Since crossbows can pierce through enemies, hitting a player or creature behind the enemy, there's a piercing-stance for rangers using crossbows.

    [edit] Additional Information
The Ranger is a merge of the Ranger and the Waylayer classes, which was merged to provide a unique and wide array of arsenal, combinations and abilities. The ranger is also a class who has the ability to play in FPS mode while using ranged, though it is not the only way they can engage in ranged combat.

    Feat List: http://aoc.wikia.com/wiki/Feat_Tree/Ranger

Very fun class though the FPS view is real buggy at the moment.
    It's all in the Reflexes.

    Re: question about ranger

I look at AoC's rangers as Assassins with bows, but allowed to wear med. armor. They can stealth, track, and trap simultaneously from range and unleash hell. Some of their stuff fires multiple shots, some stun/knockback, bleed, or are directed at certain parts of the body. A standard bow attack of course has 3 body choices to attack (obviously attack the weakest area unless you're trying to draw defense for your comrades). They have combos just like soldier classes do but some from range and some from melee. All very "Legolas-like."

Tracking is different with the ranger in that you get the name and relative location in distance from you on a text screen, and then you can focus in on one (or more targets later on I believe) to track moreso in real-time.

The FPS mode I wouldnt say is "buggy," but it is indeed difficult. It does afford a bonus to dmg. so obviously they wouldnt make it easy. I'm not sure how much of a difference it is though.

The simple fact that they can hide so well, lay traps, and attack in a deadly manner from range makes them quite interesting to play. Definitely the "sniper" of the game. A ranged-assassin if you will. Invaluable asset to any group.

Having one in PvP usually means you dont need to waste energy and/or skill points in search/perception. It also means you can avoid being GANKED because you can see where everyone is with the track ability. And if someone does try to gank you can usually stun, run, and hide or lay a snare and dip.

It goes on and on. Their definitely one of the more exciting classes IMO.
