After we had chosen our guild name, I spoke with a GM about this exact issue when dealing with another petition I had. She basically told me that if we had used our community name, we would have had to have changed it.

In a nut shell, she told me that if we had used the name (Focused Gaming) and someone petitioned it, it would have been changed for not following the RP naming rules. She also said that if a GM changed it and it was changed back we would be open to sanctions.

Asked what those might be..."possible account suspension for Guild leaders, Random name change of the guild -which you could not then change back" and some other things she would rather not get into but they had to do with a guild city if established.

Yikes.

If we weren't on an RP server, it wouldn't be an issue, but since we are, we have to play by the rules of the house.

I informed FKD of this as soon as I heard, so hopefully you'll get it figured out before a GM decides to step in.

I know you've probably seen much worse in regards to names and guild names running around but she assured me that those would be taken care of in due time and to petition any that didn't fit in on the server.

Venatus is latin for Gamer and et is "and" in latin.

I'm just curious why people are attached to keeping the name of the community as the name of the guild in some way. Translating "Tactical Gamer" into another language, or just using initials might not solve the problem as far as the RP rules are concerned.

Well the Latin/Greek translations do sound more "conanesque", and I think having it somehow connected might be a good idea...seeing as the guild has formed out of the TG community...

As I said before I'm not sure if "gamer" is the way to go, but the fact that we're tactical (even if it's in another language) should be shown in some way or another, and I don't think that will be out of RP rules.

Not being up on Hyperborean cultures and such, is there an all encompassing group in Conan stories that we could be named after or use a derivative of that name? Something like Brotherhood of the (insert weapon name, item name, etc.) could be acceptable for the RP PvP. Is there a fabled beast that Conan goes up against or somehow is a major theme in Conan stories? Could take a name from that.

Well there are in fact many Gods in the Conan universe.

Maybe the brotherhood of a God (One of the "other" Gods, as opposed to one of the Gods from a specific race, due to us having all different races)?

In fact, that could perhaps even be our supposed purpose (obviously in terms of our guild's RP). We are different races, but have been united by our belief in this one God...seems like a perfectly viable and interesting backstory for our guild.

We could also call ourselves the followers of certain figures such as King Numedides III (dead, but we still believe in him as our leader), Xaltotun, or even perhaps Conan himself, calling ourselves "The Knights of King Conan".

We could also perhaps say we are from a foreign lands, perhaps we could be the soldiers of Nemedia or Ophir or Koth.

Just thought I'd chuck a couple of ideas in there to expand on Grimm's idea, but I think in terms of sticking with the RP thing, this could be the way to go...

Comitatus or Comitatenses means war band or military brotherhood, or in late Roman Empire is the name for the Roman mobile field army. The guild could be called "Comitatus" only. Companions of the Crown, or Brotherhood of the Realm, or something like Blood Reavers or Black Reavers. Along the Scotland/England borderlands Reivers were groups of warriors who raided their enemies and protected thier homes and lands through force of arms.
