    TG: Might have to change Guild name...

    We're starting to catch flak for not having an RP-type name for the guild (from other players). And technically, our name doesnt follow the RP rules (they're not really enforced at this time though). Yeah, we ended up on the RP server... but our original naming poll didnt stipulate that (the poll obviously decided on "Tactical Gamer" being the name.)

    Given that we're now on an RP server and it's being realized that this could be an issue, we've got to revisit this again.

    Either we try to get Funcom to change our guild name for us or we make a new guild with a new name and transfer everyone over (about 20 folk right now). I doubt they'd change the name for us, simply because we're on a PvP server and much of what happens on a PvP server is due to guild reputation... once you've got it, you're stuck with it.

    Nevertheless... it's something we should inquire on (I've got a petition coming up soon so I'll investigate this possibility). If the GMs dont gripe on us much we can of course just leave it alone.

    What say you all to this?? (sorry for bringing this up again - please dont yell at me)

    I had a feeling we were going to have problems down the line. We should probably change it to something w/ the greek or latin roots.

    We dont have to change it yet, I'm just checking to make sure we're not violating the naming conventions (for the future). Luckily, Guild PVP points are not enabled right now... so we're not losing anything by renaming or reforming the guild under a different name. That's also part of the reason why it's so easy to leave/join a guild w/o any penalty. USUALLY, you'd have to wait a week or so before they'd allow you to join a new guild.

    I'm suggesting we use something along the lines of "tactical gamer" except more lore appropriate. A good compromise would satisfy those wanting to keep TG as the name, and those who would like to have something more roleplayerey. Heres what I'm thinking..

    1) IIRC Stygia is based on Egyptian culture, Aquilonia on Greco Roman, and Cimmeria on Gaelic (note: not Nordic). I don't know much about Conan lore but I know Set to be part of Egyptian pantheon, and Wikipedia tells me Mitra is part of the greco roman mythology, and Crom was made up by Howard for the Conan universe. I'd rather not use this as a basis for a name though, since the guild would be made up by characters of all classes/races.

    2) Seeing that English borrows from Latin and Greek language it makes alot of sense to go that route rather than using anything from the other 2 languages. (Assmuing we do something thats not English)

    3) Defiantly the most rule braking part of the name is "Gamer". But personally I'd very much like our name to include or at least imply that we are "Tactical" and not just some "random" made up name.

    With that in mind we could replace "Gamer" with something more generic. Something that comes to mind is the Latin word "Nos" which means we, and thats generally common knowledge. The second part can be lore/mythology/language inspired or completly made up. "Nos Tactica" would be an example, a spinoff of what Turbinator mentioned before. Which would translate from pseudo-latin into "We Tacticians"

    I think we can keep the Tactical part, but instead of gamer substitute it with "army" or "squad" or "cell" or "group", then translate the whole lot into Latin, Nordic or some other fancy language. The romans used to call their squads somehow you could use Tactical combined with whatever they call their squads.

    Alternatively we can change the name alltogether, its not really important to have "TG" guild name, all matters is that we part of the community.

    As saik0 said, the "gamers" part is the real deal breaker, so changing that to something like the greek/latin for warriors or fighters would be better.

    Haham thats what I meant when I said "goup" squad etc, I really meant to say Warriors or Fighters etc, cudnt find the words, but yes that is probably the best idea. Tactical Warriors, or Tactical Fighters translated into Roman Latin or some other language.

    I've heard numerous people say that you can change your guild name at will. Suppose it would have to be the guild leader that does it though.

    Yah, I checked on that and you can change it with the "guild name" tab. That's pretty dang cool. Granted, kinda dumb on a PvP server... you can bet your bottom dollar it's gonna change to a more permanent rule though.

    Yh, who was the guy who initially made the TG Guild on RP-PVP server (Humvee?) I remember them saying that it is possible to change the guild name...
