    Frustrated on Install

OK....bought the game yesterday afternoon, came home and installed it, registered online for the Funcom account, followed instructions to the letter.

Started the game, it started through its "updating files" process, but keeps stalling out. I even let it run overnight with my firewall down (big risk) and after approximately 6.5 hrs it had only progressed to 900mb of 15.4Gb.

Thought my interenet may have had issues overnight, so I started it over........stalls out around 17.5mb of 15.4Gb now.

Internet connection is broadband through my cable company, spoke with them, modem is communicating fine.

System specs if it matters :
    OS- Win XP Pro sp2
    CPU- AMD Quad core
    Mem - 4 Gb of DDR2 (pc6400)
    GPU - Nvidia w/1Gb Ram ddr2 (directx9)

Sent email to support@ageofconan.com describing problem 12+ hrs ago, no response as of yet. I cannot even get onto the official forums, looks like something is wrong with it.

Kind of sounds like a bandwidth issue on the game servers to me. Anyone got any ideas/solutions ?

Watching this "Downloading Updates" progress meter grind to a halt has got me down. And to think, I took the day off today to play this game, only to have my plans crushed......

    Re: Frustrated on Install

If it is trying to update the full 15.4GB download then there is an issue with where you installed the game or it didn't install correctly from the disk.

Reinstall the game from disk and put it in the default location then try again. All it should do, if it's installed correctly, is check your files and then download any new patches since the game launched.

If you moved the default install location of the game, that's probably where your issue is starting. Because the updater/patcher always looks to that location even if you changed the install path. (yeah it can be a problem) If it doesn't find the game files, it will try and download the full game again.

Which is probably why it's trying to do a full game update on you.
    It's all in the Reflexes.

Location installed on my pc :

    c:\Program Files\Funcom\Age of Conan\

That's where it was installed. Isn't that where it's supposed to go ?

I have deleted it and I will start over.

    Re: Frustrated on Install

Hello, There are a couple issues, but first I must adress something.

Turning off your firewall is not a big risk, as you mentioned, its infact risk free. I disabled all ym firewall software and I never had a security problem in over 2 years, and I downlaod a lot of torrents and what not. Also, you might want to check your Video Card out, most DX9 cards are slow and outdated and might under perform, post your card detaisl here. Remember, it is not the memory that counts in a GFX card, its the clock speed and the memory speed. SOme cards might have 512 mb, but they will be outperformed by 256 cards with faster clock speed. Thats because the 512 will not be able to use the allocated memory efficiently.

As for your game problem, try reinstalling the game, if that doesnt work try folowing:

Delete Local Game files: found in Documents Settings > search around in your USER area. Also try to verify the game files by clicking on "Settings" and under the video tab in the Updater.

Completely remove the game and all assosiated files: Search computer for "Connan" etc, and reinstall.

    -------------
You might be having connection problems, just because you turned off your firewall does NOT mean the port is open. This is why Software firewalls totaly fail. Make sure the ports are open. If you have UPnP feature, turn it on.

Most likely it is just a glitch, as ive had the full set on my client, ive had 15 gigabyte patches, repetitive 13 mb patches which never end, etc etc and I used the steps above to correct the issue.

    Re: Frustrated on Install

OK.......reinstalled the game. Patches/updates went fine. I got into the game and tinkered around with my settings and found out I can run the game just fine on Medium settings, no lagging or framerate issues. I played around on the beginning island for a little while and leveled up to 7. Had to exit the game for dinner with the wife and kids. Came back, loaded up the game and have the SAME problem I had initially.

Dr. Zelenka.......took your advice and checked the things you mentioned......still no luck.

Going to reinstall again to see if that works again. Hope I dont have to reinstall the game every time I exit the game or turn off the PC.
