Yeah.. it's pretty daunting to wrap your head around (or mine anyway). Too much at once.

Looks good to me, a ton of new and/or enhanced stuff. In general combat damage reductions seem to be offset by a speed offset and whatnot.

Won't really know what it means I guess until we put it to use.

    Re: Could it be?

OK.. I've been reading some posts about a possible 'unintended side-effect' to the murder system you might want to be aware of up front.. likely a quick patch soon - I can't see any logic at all in the way this is set up.

    - If you are in a group battle, say lvl 60 vs. lvl 60, you won't get murder points assessed for kills. However, if someone in the group you are fighting is an apprenticed lvl 42 - you will be assessed murder points for killing them even though you can't tell they are a 42 and not one of the 60's.

Just jumped on for a minute, whoa, they really changed the amount of time it takes for a combo! Seems like it makes the combat faster, need some more time in game though. I'll be on this week!

Some got a damage nerf but a combo speed buff.. battles last longer and are more fun. Your 'old faithful' 1 or 2-shot kill combo is probably nerfed so you need to plan on piling on your less often used combos.

Overall your combat approach will probably need to be a little more thought out - and take some time getting used to.

How does one spot a player flagged as a murderer? Do they have an icon over their head, etc?

    Re: Could it be?

This patch really fundamentally changes the herald gameplay. It used to be that pretty much all of our combos were good for damage, with a couple very high damage finishers on a long cooldown (Fire Lance, Pillar of Infernal Flame), and the rest were solid attacks, with different rider effects. Body and Spirit Wrack stole mana and did solid damage. Molten Steel Slash did moderate damage, but ot the right, and provided a debuff to their fire and slashing resist. Burn to Death did weak damage to the left, but a high damage dot. And hellstrikes was our quick cooldown straightforward physical damage dealer. A good filler to round out the other attacks.

Now they've all taken a huge hit in damage (which i know everyone has), but more problematically, they've taken a damage hit relative to each other. Now only Hellstrikes and Pillar of Infernal Flame do really solid damage. And pillar is only solid now, not high. The other attacks are just utility. So where heralds already had a variety of attacks to use, now we've got the reverse..now we're using pretty much nothing but hellstrikes. and maybe a pillar on tanks or in a group. I far preferred having multiple viable damage combos to one.

    Re: Could it be?

I think that is pretty much the consensus on the patch. I've noticed all of the same with my HoX at lvl 50.

It is a little frustrating that quests that were soloable don't appear to be anymore. Once I aggro 2 mobs if a third or more gets aggro'd during the fray - I'm toast an that seems to happen a lot in the EM zone.

    Re: Could it be?

I noticed on my newb Demo that I cant lay waste to more than a few mobs at a time anymore. Definitely takes more thought on combat; using the demon, the proper debuffs/buffs, roots, etc.

The problem I've got is that they havent lowered the casting time for spells have they? From what I've seen I dont think so. If they were going to nerf the dmg. they should've lowered the casting time a bit.

In playing my Conqueror, I can undoubtedly say he's even MORE fun to play now (he was fun before though). He moves faster, he's more flashly, and for a CONQ. who lives off buffs/debuffs this new system actually makes him a force to be reckoned with. I can throw out all my best debuffs, buffs, and bleeds in 1 or 2 combo presses... and then hit my big hitters in 3 (whirlwind is now only 3 buttons). This also has the benefit of maximizing the effect time. Before the patch it took so long to get in place and throw a combo that most of your buff/debuff time was wasted. NOW, you can get in a few good licks while it's active. Overall, the math makes me more powerful when you calculate the timing on buff/debuff and combo presses. It's up to the player to maximize this though or they're gimped.

That being said, it's definitely a bit harder... but more exciting, cerebral, and quicker IMO.

The real problem lay with the casters though. They need to be re-balanced now. Honestly, I'd always thought casters should've had a combo system just like melee did. There are a few RPGs out there that rely on a "gestured" combo system to cast mage spells and they've always worked out well... they should've used the same mentality for the casters.

As for HoX play... just like Conq, you've gotta maximize your buff/debuff combos. Use em constantly now that the combos are much shorter.

Lastly, what many people need to realize is that this combat patch was largely to help prevent circle-strafing combo buildups. Since combos are shorter and damage is less, it doesnt pay to use the latter tactic. You're better off playing your combos, shields, and positioning (the way the game was meant to be played).

Overall, I like the patch. They just have to tweak the squishies.

    p.s.
For group play this patch is also more relevant when you take all of the above into account... making it more complex and perhaps even more tactically engaging. Alas, our group is low on numbers

Conq is a lot more fun to play i agree.

I had a guy circle strafing me last night and i could not keep him from doing it and still do damage since the combo's weren't hitting for decent damage. I would have had to counter circle to stop it which defeats the purpose. They really killed damage if their not right in front of you and I see circling becoming more apparent which sucks.
