    Question Direct X

Anyone having issues downloading the Direct X for the new update? Keep getting a message "Setup could not download the file. Please retry later or check network connection." after I run Direct X. Hmmm......

Sorry, I didn't see your messages earlier. Are you still having trouble?

---- First - make sure you downloaded the NOVEMBER distribution of DX, the link on the AoC launcher and in some forums went to the AUGUST package//

To install the update, do the following (thanks go to Tarkadahl for writing these instructions):

    1. Create a new folder on your desktop, call it something like "DirectX November" or something like that. The name doesn't matter. Just make sure it's something you can find easily.

    2. Download the Directx update to your desktop (or somewhere you can find it).

Right click the link below and select "Open in new window" to go to the website to download the Directx Update:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...8-9f20f1244a8e

Once it's downloaded, double click the file and when asked, browse to the new folder you created and click OK to begin extracting the files.
NOTE: At this point it hasn't actually installed it yet, it just extracted (unzipped) the contents of the downloaded file to your new folder.

    3. Once it's finished "extracting" (unzipping) the files, open the folder you created. You'll see a lot of files in there now. Find the file called "DXSETUP" (or "DXSETUP.exe") in there, and then double click it to install update.

Once it's installed, and if you want, you can now delete that folder you created because it, and the files within it, are no longer needed.

Yes, that's the one I tried. Unless I missed a step or did something wrong. The update doesn't seem to initialize.

There are two or three more that don't often post.

At this time we are somewhat idle as the server populations have dropped. There are some changes in AoC that will be occurring That began with the October update and this recent November patch. Funcom is also putting more effort into attracting new members as well as a likely server merge to boost populations throughout the playfields

So, all that said hopefully things will come out of hibernation and we can start growing again.

AoC as it stands now is truly something to behold.

Ah direct-x setups, always messy in the developer side. Strange versioning, overwritten files, hell.. MS gotta make a better system for direct-x installations.
