Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Yeah, that sucks. But I think it's important they take the extra time and do it right. I'd rather see a later release than an early unpolished game.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
I've been watching this game for a while. I was really disappointed when it was delayed but it looks like it is worth waiting for. I just hope they don't wreck it like LOTR online.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
I've yet to see a Scandinavian/Icelandic group "wreck" a game. They're the best game developers in the world - bar none. This game will fly, trust me. Granted, these folks dont make games for everyone like WoW, they make progressive titles... so dont take the subscription numbers to heart - I dont anticipate AoC to really draw that many people, but those who DO play will be impressed.
'Course, I havent played/betaed it... but Ive followed most of the work these Silicon Fjord guys do and it's impressive. The big american/asian corps cant hold a candle to the mid-size indies over there. Personally, I'm sick of cookie-cutter big-name pop titles being shoved down my throat, so AoC will be a welcomed breath of fresh air.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Took a look at this title after they mentioned something about it on Penny Arcade today. IF they can deliver on the graphics quality without requiring you to build a 10k machine, I think this will be the best looking MMO since FFXI (the game that in my mind has the best "realistic" graphics of any that I've seen). I've got the feeling, though, that it's going to require a ton of hardware to run at anything like the levels in the trailers.
I'll read up more on the game, seems interesting.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
That DX 10 video looks super hot.
Tarpan, All you need to spend a lot of money on is the Vid card, which they should come down in price by then. We can hope anyway.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Dunno about that. I've long since learned that just about everything in your computer (processor, RAM, vid card) has an effect on MMO's (and other games) at different times. Video card used to be the big thing, but games nowadays use a ton of processor power as well. Back when I had a Radeon 9800, I decided to experiment and upgrade my processor instead of my video card. Huge improvement, more than just a video card would have done by far.
Right now I run an Athlon 64 3200+ (about 2ish years old), 2x1 gig of unmatched RAM (had paired Corsair gig sticks, but one died and I got a Patriot replacement), and an AGP Radeon X850 XT. When I decide to upgrade next, it'll be costly because I basically have to replace everything so that I can go to a PCIe video card. Will probably cost me around $7-800 easy, and that's if I go with robust but not top-of-the-line stuff.
I actually want to rebuild now (since I just dumped $300 on a cool new monitor :P ), but I'm in a grey area where I have become very bored with computer games overall. Can't justify spending tons of money on something I won't use at the moment.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
ah yeah i hear ya. True for upgrading to PCIe. However You could get away with just buying the mobo/cpu combo, vid card and new ram and keep everything else that's existing in your box. I suspect that'll run around 400 bucks depending on the cost of dx10 cards when that time comes around.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
AoC wont be TOO processor intensive (not like Supreme Commander is), but it will definitely be RAM and GPU intensive. Most of the test rigs are using single 8800GTXs. It's not going to support hyperthreading so dual-core isnt really necessary correct? That's money saved right there. Granted, in the "world battles" and squad-play the devs are planning I'm sure more CPU-power will help.
AND, remember the release was delayed until October, so that gives the prices time to come down some. As it stands now, my prospective dual-core GTX rig has already dropped in price since January.
With next-gen consoles, comes next-gen PCs - just will cost us PC-folk more money.
Now, as for before AoC comes out I think performance-wise we'll only have to worry about Gods and Heroes, which will come out in the summer. That game will be proc. intensive due to the excessive amounts of units involved, but probably not moreso then AoC will be. But again, GPU for sure.

"After all we've seen, we get more and more excited, not only about what Funcom is doing to bring the world of Robert E. Howard to life, but also to bring a more mature, more action focuses alternative to the rest of the MMOs out there."
Hope it delivers!

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Wow, I hadn't bothered to even read up on this game until now, but it does look pretty sweet if they can deliver.
I think it would be an ideal game for the TG crowd. Formations, anyone? Player castles and sieges?
Hopefully, by the time it comes out, vista drivers and hardware will be up to speed.

I yearn for the day when "FatKidDeath" yells "By Krom Ghambit! Fire that damned catapult!"
There will be siege engines in this btw and entire player cities. Going to be quite an accomplishment if they release this game (and it works) as they intend to.
BTW: Release is now a DEFINITIVE October 30th, 2007... it releases then or bust basically

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
From what they're trying to accomplish in this game, that sounds like a hard deadline to make. I'm hopeful they can pull it off, but I would bet anyone here $20 that if they do, it will be at the cost of features and stability.
