Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
I've been following this game and it looks promising.

Very interesting. If everyone in the TG community banded together to build a city...
My sanity is not in question...
It was a confirmed casualty some time ago.
Light, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill because they ticked me off.

I've been following it a while as well. If my current rig (or a decently priced replacement, i'm not going 5k Ferrari) could run it i'd give it a whirl most definitely. Love Conan..

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
What the crap! I just lost a HUGE post on this game somehow (damned website overlaid it). grrrrr
In a nutshell, this is the game of '07 and probably a WoW-killer. I havent yet definitively SAID any game is a WoW-killer until I really got into studying what they're doing over at Funcom, but I can tell you NOW that AoC IS a WoW-killer... if you're over 17 and have a next gen gaming PC.
AoC community is vastly different from WoW, GnH, or any other game. They seem as intelligent as Vanguard people but less elitist and more combat oriented. A lot of military folk as well.
I urge everyone to really study this game's development and feature list as it's just mind-numbing. I would sell my soul to play it NOW. Why do we have to wait till summer??
Everything about this game from the engine (Dreamworld on DX10) to the gameplay is cutting edge. And believe you me, they'll be able to deliver content and HUGE amounts of units with relative ease. What you see now is definitely not what you're gonna get. We'll probably get much much more.
If ANY MMO were a game for TG, AoC is it... it really is nearly the perfect tactical mmo if treated as such (if the devs do what they say they will). Total combat control, formation fights, squads, wars, sieges, brawls... gawd! Can they cram any more into this game? Not to mention a largely soloable adventure along with large raid type dungeons and pvp fights.
I've entered a few beta contests for Conan and I pray I'll get in, if just to get a small taste of what they're doin.
p.s.
new DX10 version trailer is now up..

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
This game does look good and the features sound intriguing.
But I have never liked the Conan Mythology. Even as a kid in high school could only get through about 1/2 a book. And the look of the weapons just throws me off. Why do they always make them look so silly? Who does that appeal to? A huge sword with gigantic serrations?

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Yea I have been extensively following this game for a while as well. As long as its not too dumbed down for the Xbox 360 (a la Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) then its gonna be awesome..

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
LoL Are you serious?? The majority of gamers are hooked on Anime swords and WoW gear... all of which are absurdly constructed.
The problem I have with these large weapons is that usually they come with bad texturing. Whereas in Conan the textures will be phenomenal, so the size is just giving us even more eye candy to look at... which is all good. Huxley will be a similar situation with super large Duke Nukem type we
weaponry all rendered in the U3 engine.
As for the gameworld, I was never too big of a fan of the books simply because I never read any of them. I LOVED the movies though and I like the fact that every character is a Human. I also like the non-carebearishness of it, which in most gameworlds is always prevalent.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Oh I know, the kids just love that stuff. Kids and a whole bunch of other players.
I just don't understand the appeal. Looks silly to me. Of course I can't stand that Anime stuff either, old fart that I am becoming. But hey, if that is what the world wants then give it to them.
I just wish there was a game with the feature set of Conan but kept things closer to real.I’m not racists, I have republican friends. Radio show host.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
My sentiments exactly. WOW doesn't really fit my tastes nor my style in character animation. Hopefully Conan will be what I'm looking for in a MMO.
However, you can't argue with the populairty of WOW, they seem to be doing something right.

Re: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
Yah, I've been registered for a few weeks now at their forums. Best gaming community I've seen since EVE.
As for the "oversized weapon" thing. You have to realize that these are fantasy characters. A superhero strength barbarian isnt going to be fighting with a rapier, he's gonna have a HUGE honking duel edged two-hander. How that weapon is rendered and animated is where it's at.
