Looks like EB is charging an extra $5 to download the game to run the preorder period. The 'extra 10 days' is to allow time for the physical game to arrive, at which time you can enter your retail code for uninterrupted play.

Yep, you must create a new account, your beta account will not work. The 5$ extra is for everyone that wants in on the 3 day early access. Be sure you go to "http://register.ageofconan.com" to setup your account.

I haven't had that much trouble running the title but I think the debugger running in the background is the main reason for the stutters and freezes. It is entirely possible they know that but the information they are gathering from the debuggers is more valuable than a smooth beta experience.

Any theories on it pretty much pure speculation as well as is their progress toward release. They've made a definite commitment with preorder incentives - I bet they are pretty intent on a finished product by the 17th.. but that would be speculation.

Wait, what's this about an extra $5 for the promised pre-order early access? Haven't seen this mentioned before, and Gamestop didn't say anything.

Well, they sure didn't tell me about this in the store where I pre-ordered. Then again, my Gamestop doesn't seem to have a clue about anything. So, who knows what happens with my copy of the game. The early access and bonus mount don't seem forthcoming (not that I truly care about either).

What I find worrying is that on that web page, the price is wrong (game is $59.99, site lists $49.99), and it says the game ships on the 20th. That's not the same as on the shelves on the 20th- this I know from experience.

You can get it for 49.99 - Best Buy has that price.. actually it is 59.99 with $10 off. Same thing with the CE.

And yes - you won't get it until the 23-27th.. thats why the preorder incentive comes with the +10 days.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. According to what I've read the release date is May 20, which means box in store and on shelf on May 20. Otherwise it would be listed as "ship" date like it is here, which is the only site I've seen it listed so. So either there's lots of wrong information out there on the game's actual release, or if you don't pony up the extra $5 Gamestop makes you wait 3-7 days past release to get the game.

There's been a fishy feeling about this whole release for a while now in my head, and it just got a lot stronger.

It's not Gamestop charging that 5$, its the developers. I've set my account up already for it. I'm seeing the release date as the 20th. If the 20th is indeed the ship date, then it will be there on Wednesday the 21st, which most games are unless they are huge massive releases, and they arrive at the store earlier in the week to hit a exact release date, ie. GTA 4.

I went through this exact process with Dungeons and Dragons Online two years ago and it works OK. I think Turbine was the first to do it that way. The main thing that is different is that the developer is charging $5, which I don't care for, although it is semi-understandable because it's a 12GB download.

IMO, The only reason to preorder by mail and not get your box until the 23rd or 27th is to get a bonus in-game item and if you're really that anxious to play the game you'll spend the extra $5 to download the game. But if bonus items don't interest you and you can wait three days until the release.. just bop on down to Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, or whatever on the 20th.

Just went to my local Gamestop today and they'd just gotten their pre-order cards in stock. I pre-ordered the CE about a month ago so I was lacking any viable means of early entry (never got a pre-order cd, card, key, email, etc.)... at least now my worries (and others) are squelched.

So, if you pre-ordered a while back check your local Gamestop for the key card they owe you. (I actually got mine for free since the rep. forgot to charge me)

IMO, it's well worth it just to get the xtra bag and gametime. Loot in Conan is hard to store in the early levels - that bag will help immensely. And remember, early entry helps alleviate server load (which is the main reason devs even have that option).

Couple that with the CE's xp ring and drinking cape and it's a pretty sweet thing ingame.

So wait, now there's an extra bag for pre-orders (or at least the collector's addition)? Jebus, is there any website at all that lists ALL the benefits of a pre-order? First it was just a mount, then it was early access, now a bag...

Maybe I'm just way behind on information, but it feels like the closer to release we come the more confusing it gets.

Pre-orders get an 8-item bag and a War Mammoth (for gamestop). CE buyers get a special XP ring along with the drinking cape (and all the other goodies - CD, map, dvd, case, etc.). Obviously, if you pre-order the CE you get it all... along with the early entrance and 10 days gameplay.

I saw that price on Amazon. Seems alot of sites are sold out of the CE.

Because there's none left. Unlike other companies, Funcom made an effort to only make a specific amount of them - so as to make them truly "collectible" so to speak. For $200 though, I just might sell mine, heck.
