I had that idea long ago for the TR clan, it's a good name... but, my 1st choice is always simple "Tactical Gamer."

Remember also, most AoC specific lore is based on ancient Greek/Atlantean legend... so anything in that realm would be appropriate methinks. Which is why Taktiko Venatus grooves. (combo of Greek and Latin)

Perhaps just Taktiko... or just Venatus... or Taktiko Naixvioi (tactical gamer in Greek)

Personally, I have no intention of ever playing on an RP server. It's enough for me that I'm already controlling a dude in a loincloth going around killing monsters, I don't need to emote my actions and speak in character. There's also always plenty of drama just between real players that I don't need the added RP drama on top of it.

Those days are long gone for me, and I don't care to re-visit them. :P

On the other hand I like that idea of the greek and Latin, would go along with the legend. Takitko Venatus, or something in that realm.

Also you have to take into account that all our Tactical Gamer servers do start with " TacticalGamer.com - ". I believe that it would be a great idea to support our community with the name of our community.

I would support both Tactical Gamer, and Taktiko Venatus, but no one has a chance of pronouncing Taktiko Naixvioi.

I agree, it seems like the more catchy guild names are the ones that get the most attention in the mmo community.

Taktiko Naixvioi sounds interesting but Latin was not a language in the Conan lore and it can be difficult to pronounce and spell(sort of minor quibbles though).

Tactical Gamer is not really Conanesque but is the name of the community.

I'll coutinue to brain-storm.

Well, keep in mind that we're not required to fit in with the Conan lore. If we were, we'd have to scour books and such for pre-existing groups.

Perhaps just shortening it to Taktiko would do?

Taktiko Naixvioi is greek, not latin. Venatus is latin, meaning game, and I would have made the whole name latin if I could find an equivalent for tactic, but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent one word. Also, I like that Taktiko is phonetically similar to tactical.

Also, it's a good thing we're not required to fit in with conan lore, or the 1000294789275298735897 MasterChief assassins I saw running around would be in trouble.

I like the Greek and Latin ideas, but 'difficult to spell' is really important. If someone sees us fighting as a unit and doing really well, and that person is impressed with us, we want them to be able to find us easily so they can join the community and spread the word. So, while I would love to choose something that sounds cool and fits with the setting and such, I must ultimately cast a vote in favor of Tactical Gamer for our name. Ultimately, this theoretical guild is coming from the community and should represent the community.

I agree with Frank. The ease of pronouncing and spelling is a key factor. ATM im all for just plain ol' 'Tactical Gamer'.

the best I can find for tactic is scientia, -ae knowledge, skill

with Latin you just have to get close and sound poetic, I had 3 years in high school and after translating Virgil you understand that Latin is very flexible and depends on what the author wants the words to mean.

so we get...

Scientia Venatus

we could also us Ludus (more of a coliseum game) so it would be Scientia Ludus
