HI all, I now have gotten my ranger to level 40+ and just hought I would share a few tips...
Bows are faster for each shot, but generally do less damage per shot than crossbows
Crossbows are slower to fire, but have a higher damage per shot potential
I use crossbow and put my feats into the waylayer line. Bow users should put feat points into the sharpshooter line.
Ammo is not of a concern in this game, in the sense of quantity. Once you have a type of ammo equipped it does not run out.
Your ranged damage potential is effected by the combination of both the bow/xbow you are using and the ammo you are using. Upgrade both as you level higher. A high level bow with low level ammo is not going to be as effective.
Rangers can stealth. Use it often. You can even loot things off the ground without losing stealth!! Just Shift-LEFT click the loot while you are stealthed. Boom, you loot all in the bag. If the bag opens you break stealth. Try it, sometimes it breaks, but more often than not, you will pick up the loot without being seen.
Shooting from a perch against NPCs or mobs where they cannot hit back will trigger them to go into evade mode. NOTE: You can stay perched while a group mate attacks. As long as the mob does not try to attack you. If it breaks off your group mate and tries for you, it may evade and heal itself. Careful!!
You can place a snare while stealthed! Move up close, place snare, move back, engage.
More to come as I learn more.

It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
