Re: AION: Tower of Eternity

I have not played this game yet but have done some extensive reading on the game. I am hopefully going to play the open beta this weekend June 19th to June 21st and after which I will post my impressions in this forum. If it sucks I'll be the first to admit it. Now for some info.

Aion is a MMO RPG that was released in Korea. It achieved record breaking sales which then allowed the company to move into the Chinese market. Now nearly two years later it is jumping over to the US. Aion has two factions the Elyos, Angelic looking, and Asmodians, Demonic looking, both winged races live in Atreia. There are Four classes to choose from for each faction. You can be a Warrior, Scout, Mage, or Priest. Each Class has a subclass or specialization you choose at lvl 9. Warrior becomes either a Gladiator or Templar. Scout becomes either a Ranger or Assassin. Mage becomes a SpiritMaster or Sorcerer, and Priest becomes a Chanter or Cleric. Follow the link for some more info on classes:

http://www.aiononline.com/us/game_gu...n/classes.html

Here are some distinctive aspects of Aion:

The World: Aion is set in a unique land where players explore the inside of a shattered world, separated into two halves with the Abyss between them.

Aerial Combat: No longer limited to two-dimensional combat on the ground, players in Aion can fly. Now think of online combat on a massive scale where attacks can come in any direction.

PvPvE: Players will be able to engage in intense raids and other encounters with computer opponents, not to mention the opposing player faction.

Classes: Players have a choice of four classes to start with, and can then move on to two more specialized classes once they attain a certain level of capability.

Character Customization: You can customize your character in a multitude of ways with a thorough character creation and crafting system, as well as detailed item customization options.

More to Come...

Re: AION: Tower of Eternity

Ok I'm new to TG, someone started a Legion(guild) in Aion and I jumped on and that's how I found this site. Being a vet on WoW, Tabular Rasa, Lineage I & II, Everquest... etc. and having run Guilds in many MMOs, after this last closed beta of Aion, it's looking good.

It looks kinda like Lineage, but what do you expect, it's the same publishers, the graphics are more polished though, and in my opinion look better. The environments are really nice and I would say that this game makes WoW look really dated. The interface is almost like a near clone to WoW and it feels very similar. It takes little time getting use to it if you've played other MMOs and the interface doesn't feel cramped like TR, RF Online, or many other MMOs I've played before.

There are neat little cut scenes that play out on some of the main quests, and it's nice seeing your own Character/Avatar/Toon, in those scenes. Since the lvl cap on this bata was only to 10, you only get the feel for the games basic mechanics which are not bad. Next beta the cap will be 25 and so we'll get to see more in depth game play, but so far it is looking good. As time progresses I'll try and keep you posted of how it develops and if there's anyone else that's beta testing it, it would be nice to see what you guys think about it.

How does the combat system work?

It starts off like every mmo, select a target and use a skill. But then it changes, as you progress in lvls you learn more skills, some skills are part of a chain attack and cannot be used unless the starting skill attack is used. The higher in lvl you are, the more skills you learn and the longer the chains become. After lvl 10 and a class quest, you gain an extra bar, DP gauge or Divine Power gauge and a new skill, this gauge fills as you kill mobs and only depletes when you use your DP skill, which is like a power attack, or you die before using it.

Also during the chain attack, some attacks have the ability to push away your target or knock them down and then you can follow up with another attack while they are down or pushed back. Some skills in a chain, instead of attacking, adds a short attack boost, defensive ability, or slow your opponent, which will help you hit harder, take more damage or allow you to dish more out on your opponent.

All of that, with great animations and flashy moves, makes it really cool to see and nice to watch (My own opinion).

Re: AION: Tower of Eternity

Nice explaination! However as Ashura said we could only lvl to 10 so there was only an intro to combat. At lvl 10 alot of people dueled in a Fight Zone (areas where you can use your wings) So there was alittle flight combat going on. It was mostly Ranged combat as noone had any air melee skills yet. At lvl 10 it was the Healers and Mages who took most the wins! I have lots of screen shots and some Fraps videos i am going to work on and put up by this weekend. Next Beta in two weeks! Preorder your copy for a beta key if still available.

Re: AION: Tower of Eternity

Ok... NC soft had given me a beta code for Aion due to the closing of Tabular Rasa, Which I used; and had the pre-order beta code I received at my store just laying around thinking "What's the point in using it if I'm already in the beta?" The game is set to ship on September 22, unless we get it before then it will be out for pre-orders on the 23 or 24th. But anyway I was looking at the stuff at work on what bonuses you get for per-ordering. Well I just found out that the per-order Beta code is unique to the regular beta codes given out to everyone beta testing Aion.

The Beta code for pre-orders are actually marked differently from regular beta tester codes, and when used you cannot cancel your per-order from gamestop (but who would want to after participating in this game?). In fact I finally inputted the pre-order code and NC Soft gave me a notice saying "It would be best to upgrade your account then to start a new one". So I see my account... it actually says beside it now "Pre-Order" account, and so I believe that days before the actual launch, all of us that pre-ordered Aion, will be allowed access to Aion before everyone else by means of either just updating the current client or DLing a new client specifically to preorders and then finally at launch, entering our serial keys we receive from the hard copy itself to keep our pre-launch characters along with any other extras.

Now that last part is speculation but it makes sence. I'll keep everyone posted from the retail side as time progresses and let you know as it comes closer and closer to release. So those of you who have a beta account and are interested in the game as I am, but have not pre-ordered the game, I say you should go and pre-order it and get that pre-order beta code while supplies last so that you can get all the goodies and bonuses, from what it's looking like these bonuses are alot better and more useful then just some show off pet that does nothing or an accessory that only makes you "look cool" with out any stat bonuses.

GameSTOP Pre-Order Bonus:
" Reserve Aion and receive exclusive in-game items as well as early access to Aion. The preorder bonus comes with:

* Access to all Aion pre-launch events, and early head-start access to Aion live game.
* Access to Aion server and character pre-selection.
* Exclusive in-game items including the Dark Cloud Helmet (stat boost), Talisman of Lodas (XP boost), and the GameStop Exclusive Ancient Ring of Fire.

Available for online and in-store customers only while supplies last. Orders may not be canceled once beta code has been sent

Online / In-Store Pickup Customers: A unique code giving you early access and exclusive in-game items will be emailed within 24 hours of ordering.

Store Customers: A pre-order card giving you early access and exclusive in-game items will be available at time of reservation."

And if you Pre-order the Collectors Edition, you get alot of other bonuses.

Anyway, that's all I have for now, I'll try and keep you all posted.
