Aion: Tips discussion
Hey everyone. I thought we would use this thread to enter any tips or tricks for new players to Aion. Feel free to drop in here and post what you've learned from the beta. I'll start.
In Aion you have a gathering skill for materials, herbs, etc. Often you are given missions to gather items,,ie Angelica (herb), orange, Jute, Iron, Ruby... Anyway each of these items has a minimum gathering level. For instance Oranges gathering level is 55. Angelica is 1. Jute is 25 i think. The Tip is while questing/grinding whatever Gather ANYTHING and everything you can. b/c when a quest item needs gathering you don't want to go out and gather things you dont need (but your skill lvl allows it) to gain enough gathering skill to gather the item you need. The best example is you are given a quest to gather oranges around Character lvl 16-18. Oranges have a gathering skill of 55. So you are only 45. So you gather nothing (item in your skill range) over and over until you reach 55 and then you gather the 8 oranges you need. Done right on to questing for real. Wrong the next quest at Character lvl 18-20 is to gather Oysers gathering lvl 85! So if in your normal questing after the Orange quest you did not regularly gather items get ready for 2 to 3 hours of gathering to go from 55 to 85. BUT it gets better the next gathering quest is for Tytanium skill 100. The point is if you see it and its in your Gathering skill level gather it.
Helpful Hint from HatnClox. Once you reach 55 go just west of the village called Tolba. There you will find 6 Orange groves in a circle with no/ very little agro near them. By the time you've gathered the 6th grove the 1st will have respawned, causing a loop that you can gather in to reach 85 for oyesters.
More to come...Last edited by LordMeatwad; 08-14-2009 at 02:03 PM.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
Aside from combat, I've been trying to find out what the right short-cut commands are to use in chat ingame. The only one I know of so far is:
Typing /s will bring up the Normal chat ("Say" chat);
When someone send you a whisper, instead of having to type /whisper to respond to them, you can press your quotation marks key, which will automatically bring up the prompt to respond.
I'd love to know if anyone knows the shortcut keys for the Legion or Party (Group) chat.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
Good tip, except I think I am going to hold off on the collecting till after live. Now I just have to decide which crafting skill to take. We need to make a forum topic, closer to launch, about who is doing what skill.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
I think I'm going to do armorsmithing, just like half the population in Aion. Epylon wants to mater Alchemy, but unless the make it better, I hear its a lost cause to master. Kurai is probably still a little undecided, but probably handicraft I'm assuming. Reiketsu I believe was doing clothcraft. Which leaves the need for a weaponsmith, and a cook I suppose. any volunteers?

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
Also, when we get our own sub forum, we need a work orders topic, kindof like a legion trading bazaar for our crafts. Example: Trading crafting supplies for some fancy armor, or trading high quality food for a weapon. Donations in the form of supplies could help outfit all of our guild with top quality gear; for instance, I have no use for rawhide or fresh ingredients, so I could donate to the guild crafters to help them make equipment for others, and a cook doesn't have much use for titanium, so the donations could go to the weapon/armorsmith, and in exchange gets a fancy sword out of the deal.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
- Thanks and yes the tips here are to be used for the 'Live' version of the game just to help others that didn't play beta.
-Althougth the Sub-Forum is not promised Aion will be a very big game. Cross your fingers that endgame content is on par or better then WoW. Also we are Definatly having a Crafting section to assign mastering. Note: you can work all crafting to lvl99 and only one beyond that.
-Also Definately in the plans For example Epyion may post reciepts up so people know what to collect for X potion. Then use the same thread to make an Order. ie I have collected 30 Fresh Angelica, Epyion can you make me X potion. - Yeah Ill be on tonight meet in TS and trade me the supplies. Note Crafting large quanties is easy in Aion and quick, also just an FYI all crafting has a fail so some of the rare items you've collect may be wasted to no fault of the crafter.
PS. Please reserve all posting in this THREAD to TIPS and TRICKS ONLY

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
actually, you can get all crafts to 399, but only one (maybe 2 in update 1.5) to 499. But usually theres a lot of very cool stuff in those last 100 levels with the exception of alchemy at the momment. That will probably change later in the game though.
Tip: Crafting orders are the fastest and cheapest way to level a craft, only having to buy a small amount of highly inexpensive supplies per crafted item. The main ingredients are supplied for you.
Tip2: once you get to your next benchmark crafing level (ie: lvl 50 cooking), dont go and start making the newly unlocked stuff just yet. Do some more crafting requests to give yourself more cushioning before putting those ever expensive ingredients on the line. Its very easy to fail crafting the product at the level unlocked compared to say, four or five levels after. Keep this in mind especially at higher levels, because some of those ingredients cost an arm and a leg, especially refining stones and aether.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
Tip1: Crafting takes awhile, and you can get high level in each craft, so don't fret over what craft to decide to master. Try em all out and then decide which one you like the best.
Tip2: Try not to buy items ahead of level. Its actually common to have you or someone in the guild to come across rare items, and will usually be glad to give it up.
Tip3: It is possible to make low level gear thats better than most higher level gear if you're lucky enough. I know from experience that its actually pretty common to make a "Shining" piece of equipment (about a 15% chance, but Imay have gotten lucky). All you'd have to do is supply you're local crafter with supplies, and soon you'll have the finest gear around, practically for free.
Tip4: Keep everything that is dropped/found untill you can absolutely confirm it has no use. I had the misfortune to throw out all of my refining stones in the beginning Poeta zone, thinking I didn't need them. I was definitely wrong. Some items start a miniquest if clicked on twice, for free experience and money. There only disposable items are the useless gray-named monster drops, but have a high sell value so keep them untill you go into town. So expand your cube if you think you don't have room, but keep all you find.

*Loot Everything*. It always amazes me how folks will just leave loot behind on a mob they've just pwned only because "it's just a bone" or "It's just 2 Kinah" or something. Or even if you find a mob dead on the ground and left behind there, still glowing blue. Take it, take it! It adds up, and every Kinah counts in the end. Believe me.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
Actually From the looks of it, I think Alchemy is going to be the most popular...least that is what I have seen in forums and polls. The importance pots play in PvP and you can sell to every class (unlike armorcrafting just plate and chain which is half) seem to be working alchemy to the most popular. But popularity on the forums is never a really good model of what will actually be popular in game, so could be anyone's guess.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
Oh also forgot to mention the stones, Alchemy allows you to make those too. Toss in weapons for the mage classes and you have a lot of things to sell.

Re: Aion: Tips and Tricks from Closed Beta
Sorry i've been absent as of late.. i have a lot going on in RL as i just recently found out my mom is really sick and going in for major surgery tomorrow morning. Hat is correct however, i will be doing Alchemy to cap... as i did in FFXI. I have found in my exp at least that some of the best money to be made in MMO's comes from whats known as "Consumables" ie. food, pots, materials etc. Most of these things are used by every single person in the game, regardless of race or job selection. This leaves a huge market to sell to as not everyone is out to buy that lvl 50 hq peice of armor you just crafted for the first time.
1. There is no such thing as an unnecessarily powerful object or potion. ( unless it's the sword of 1000 truths lolwow)Thats what makes it good to get to 399, but i heard you stop making them after that so no one wants to master it. After 399, its just uneccessarily powerful potions and mage weapons.
2. i believe every craft has a hidden value. For example when u go to your crafting merchant they have about 14 pages worth of recipes for you to buy, but that doesn't even scracth the surface of all the things one can make. I have received recipes from ppl from work orders AND quests as well as found them on mobs that i've killed. As far as i can tell these recipes aren't found anywhere else in the game as of yet. Meaning that the possibilities for any craft are still very much up in the air.
Gold is 100% on that, get what u can when u can get it and save, save, SAVE! Unlike other MMO's, lots of things in this game sell to npc for great value. I have over 100k after expanding my cube simply on keeping things i find and selling what i don't need. When you are out and about, your cube should always be almost full till you get back to town.*Loot Everything*. It always amazes me how folks will just leave loot behind on a mob they've just pwned only because "it's just a bone" or "It's just 2 Kinah" or something.
Also if u hit Shift then right click on an item u want to buy, u can select the quantity of items. This is great for when u have to buy 16 of this or just want 1 thing out of someones bazaar.
