Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
Brought to my attention by Reiketsu here is a partial list of servers. Also there is a Poll on Aion Source going for who is choosing what server. Now before you read anything below I want to bring up some points that I think are important. So when you post here first list what you think is important to you about a server choice and then pick a server. Also the reason this is the first discussion is we will be posting a poll of our own before launch on 9/22/09 (9/20/09 for us special people).
Response (GM Spam)08/05/2009 02:48 PM
The decision to release the names of the servers is completely up to the Production Team in conjunction with PR and Marketing. Customer Service will not release the server names before requested by Production. The names that have already been release are below.
>1 Siel
>2 Israphel
>3 Nezekan
>4 Zikel
>5 Vaizel
>6 Triniel
>11 Ariel
>12 Azphel
>13 Fregion
>14 Mesramtaeda
>15 Ereshkigal
>16 Beritra
More server names will not be released until the Production team feels it is necessary. The above mentioned server names could be changed at any time.
Thanks,

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
Please follow this format:
Important points for server choice
1. I acually want a crowded server - it is an MMO
2. I want a balance of Elyos and Asmo
3. I would rather be the number 4-10 legion on a competitive server then number 1 on a weak server
4. I want a server with a good presence on forums, (community) to organize large raids and abyss strats
5. If any servers are named "RP" they usually have the best communities.
I would pick... Either Seil or Israphel
Elyos of course.
Other considerations:
1. High pop also means lag and fighting for PVE spawns
2. Low pop has a danger of being shut down or merged with another server in the future.
3. Low Pop could be dangerous in areas where opposing factions can infiltrate.
4. High Pop gives you a good defense in areas where opposing factions can infiltrateLast edited by LordMeatwad; 08-11-2009 at 02:49 PM.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
Well, for a game of this type, I would say server population.
That being said, do we want:
High Population. More targets but more competition for top spots.
Low Population. Less targets but less competition.
I'm fine with either, just throwing another variable into the equation.
Edit: Oops was in before Neo's second post

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
After having a few years of experience with NCS MMOs, heres what I've found:
the servers that start off with a high population die relatively quickly (1-2 months) because it's so competitive that everyone either gets maxed out and server hops or the noobs that join in later on get farmed by maxed out players and they server hop. Eventually, the server settles into a rut where you have nothing but griefers and gameplay becomes stagnant. nothing but zerg squads all over the place.
Servers that start off with a very low population generally dont get filled. They acquire a ridiculous "noob server" stigma just because nobody plays there at launch. Those thend to be very boring.
Servers that run a mid range have a good balance. You have enough freedom to be able to do all the things you want to do without being interrupted or farmed out of an area in the beginning, and by the time the server population spikes, your guild/legion/clan is already well rounded and off to a massively good start. These tend to be the most fun and balanced servers.
So for my money, I'd say we keep an eye on that poll and see where everyone is going. Once we have a good solid set of numbers, we make a last minute decision (since the wipe is going to have us rerolling anyway) and grab the server that looks best.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
Good points Ferris! Esp the High server pop demise I have seen that b4 and a great reason to not choose Isra or Seil which after I put as my pics I imeadiately decided against. Your right I dont want an ultra race to lvl 50 but I also dont want to log into a place like Elten fortress (lvl 20 - 25, no channels, Asmo invadable) and not see people questing in all areas. Its going to be a tough pick. Lets keep our ears out.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
As for balance on a server, they are going to cap servers to maintain balance between sides, so that should not be a problem, but I think a mid-range population would be the most beneficial.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
Personally i'm a lifer so i'm very partial to the familiar. I feel that having been part of all these beta's Israphel and Siel kind of belong to us. /Shrug that's just my opinion, but i bet lot of the ppl who played in the closed beta's feel much the same. My vote would be for one of those. Also i feel that a mid range server WOULD best fit our wants, however there is really no way to tell which severs will fill out and which won't. I don't know about everyone else.. but i'm taking the 20th-??? off of work just to play. So i'm really not going to want to waste much time in picking our server. It IS an important decision, but i see no reason why we wouldn't be able to figure it out ahead of time.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
One thing you can bet is the people you play with in beta will usually stick with the same server in live. You may want to ask around and see where other guilds you like are going.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
Most of the PvP guilds are going to Israphel.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
well, thats not to say there wont be pvp on other servers. matter of fact, there will be lots of pvp on other servers, i can personally guarantee that as a matter of statistical fact.
however, the self-proclaimed pvp legions swearing their allegiance to going to one server means one big thing: griefing. this I can also guarantee. there is going to be lots of time on every server when the server population will be low. most people will be playing at primetime hours. but what about, say, 11am? sure, there will be some people on, but the big time pvp players who are on have relatively few opponents. so what do they do? one of two things: grind or grief. happens in every server ion every game i've seen.
now, that being said, there will be griefers on every server. but the more pvp oriented the server is, the more griefers will be there. blizzard found this out the hard way with WoW in the early days when they designated hardcore pvp-focused servers. new players could barely stay alive for more than a minute or two before a grief zerg would come in and roll them. the "normal" servers didnt have that problem.
so my vote is to stay away from israphel. good intel doc.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
We certainly need to figure out which server we are going to play on but we have over a month to do it though so only time will tell. I will keep hitting up the forums to see which one seems the best every day and I'm sure Meatwad does the same.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
I must say we already have problems with this on just the beta. I know I have run into way too many groups of Asmodians while trying to finish simple quests. The only upside to the whole thing is that you only pay one kinah for lost exp when you are killed from the opposing side.
I will agree that I would like to stay away from Israphel if that is how it will be.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
Up until now i had considered Israphel my home. I mean why wouldn't i? I started there, and learned there, it wasn't until i read ferris's last post that i realized he's totally right. The last CB event was one of the most frustrating exp i have had yet.Once you reach Elthen it's almost impossible to get anything done without being ganked by a group of asmo's in the desert somewhere. I have to think practical, and with that in mind TG is starting off relatively small in comparison to many of the others. While i still believe in quality over quantity which i believe we are all about, it doesn't help when a lot of us aren't on, or even when we are, being overwhelmed with a legion that's full of "grunts" firing off low level skills in the end we still gonna die. With that in mind i dont want my playtime to be soiled with large groups of idiots overtaking me every 5 mins just because there aren't a lot of us on at the time. I think it would be better to find a server that will best suit our numbers and slow pace of growth and rise up as one of the best on one of those. Let's face it, not everyone we find will be hardcore into PVP. I know this was a large determining factor as to why Daivd stopped playing Cleric. I think this would be the best course of action to take until our numbers grow.

Re: Aion: First Discussion for Live Server Choice
As a data point for the discussion, here are the CB6 rankings for all servers.

Note the top ranked Asmodian guild on Viazel has only one person in it. Interesting to say the least.
