Discussion: America's Army / America's Army - General Discussion - Who's getting AA3, playing, server? - America's Army 3 (which is actually version 3.0 using the Unreal V3 engine... their was
America's Army 3 (which is actually version 3.0 using the Unreal V3 engine... their was really no 2 other America Army games, just version updates), gets released to the masses June 17th. (you can actually pre-load it via steam now.)
If you don't know, but most do, America's Army is a squad based game, usually force on force. Theirs a squad leader in charge of a side and then fireteams. AA3 will have 16 missions/locations/maps upon release. Basic military tactics and teamwork is a must in this game. When first released, for a couple of months it is great, one of the best, most tactical games I've ever played... that is till people learn the maps and the games shortcomings, then the game starts getting ruined. So it is best to get in on this tactical action when it's new to everyone, before idiots start ruining it.
That said...
My questions... how many members of TG plan on getting this free game and playing?
Should TG have their own server?
If so... private or open? SM's only or all?
Should in game comms (voip) be used or teamspeak?
NOTE: Just getting ideas and feedback here from you guys. I'm still the admin of TG's AA... so want to get this rolling if theirs an interest. But the TG gods make the final decisions, hopefully with our opinions in mind.
Once up and running, I'll see who would make a better admin, and recommend they take over.
Also, once released I'll update the stickies and SOP with current info.
I just joined TG and wanted to say hello. I'm very interested in playing AA3 in a few days, I'm also a complete ARMA junkie been plaing ARMA 2 "German Version" for a few weeks now. Don't really play anything else ATM, I tend to play hardcore games like this...
Looking forward to it !!!!!!

I've already got this preloaded on Steam. I'm hoping TG gets its own server but failing that I hope we can find some other teamwork oriented server to play on.

I think and someone correct me if I'm wrong but the game is going to be a Steam game.

TG definitely needs a server for AA3. Without one most players will probably become frustrated and annoyed when you're stuck with a bunch of people who couldn't care less about teamwork and tactics. I'm sure plenty of people can relate to trying to find a server where you're playing alongside like-minded players.Didn't Apophis mention a few days ago in another thread here that he was looking into setting up a server?
I'd vote for the server being open, with SM support and using the in-game Teamspeak for comms. A good model for this is how Vulcan has run Counter-Strike here with that same setup which works great as you end up with a good mix of new players, supporting members and longtime vets who all enjoy the atmosphere.
It's defo available via Steam and on Bigdownloads with something called the Deploy Client?
Never used either on this end..... sounds like you guys would recommend Steam over the other? Looking forward to playing with like minded adults!!!!! Tactics and Teamwork all the way baby! Yes I am the FNG...... joined today.
Preloading now. Didn't really get into AA2 very much, but AA3 definately has my curiosity piqued. So I'm in.
