Discussion: America's Army / America's Army - Tactics and Missions Discussion - Cowboy's Guide to being a Medic - 0. Introduction and why or why not to be a Medic
I am typing this
I am typing this guide because I can not name how many times I have yelled "Medic!" in front of one and have him ignore me for a measly 10 point kill.
If you decide to be a Medic DO NOT worry about kills, leave that to your teamates whose job is just that. The players best suited for Medic are people who arn't too terribly good at combat, such as myself. If you're a pro at racking up monster kills PLEASE do not click the Medic class because you could serve your team better as a Squad Leader or Team Leader. <<< Look for these guides in the future.
1. Where to be
After you select the Medic class do not, I repeat, DO NOT stay at the frontlines with all of your teamates. Stick with them but not up front, you want to stay in cover at all times with easy, covered access routes to your teamates' positions.
2. Locating the wounded
Whenever you hear "Medic!" check the chat log in the top left for a location, also check the bottom left for his icon, and get there ASAP. You want to use as much cover and smoke as possible. REMEMBER: Saving his life is more important than racking up kills. Why? You get even more points for healing than getting kills.
3. Getting to the wounded
Use as much cover as humanly possible, try to use smokes sparringly for large open areas. Whenever possible call on your team's SAW gunner for some covering fire as they can go for quite some time allowing you to cross rather areas safely. Sprint as much as possible too, you need to slow down for corners to peek to see if you're clear but a lot of times, NOT everytime, but a lot of times you're going to fast and coming out too sudden for any hostiles to drop you in time. REMEMBER: To use smokes quickly prime them for 5 seconds so they start pouring out smoke the instant they leave your hand, be carefully though because this does throw off you're throwing some.
4. Doing your job
Once you've reached the wounded let them know you're there, walk up and press your USE key on them for half a second. Don't completely heal them right on the spot because that can leave both of you in serious danger.
Once he realizes you're there let him get into cover and proceed with healing. If there are multiple "wound-ee's" heal them based on severity. To check the severity look at the read-out for the soldier, it will look like this but on top of each other: Tom / Condition: Green or Yellow or Red / Severity: Minor or Moderate or Urgent. REMEMBER: Heal based on SEVERITY, NOT Condition. A Red condition soldier with a Minor severity will not die as quickly as someone with a Green condition and Urgent severity.
5. Credits
This has been yet another soldiering guide by you're friendly neighboorhood army nut: Cowboy From Hell.
Yeah, this game has soooo much potential but it just needs VOIP. And I can't play on the TG sevrer, it's a Co-Op one and my comp can't load up without time out.
Anyways, you should see me, I am a godly medic. I do exactly as I have posted beacuse Medic-ery is the only thing I am good at, even though I'm qualified for everything.
Most will think "another random kid dropping in trying to get his honour up".
One or two UK timezone clans who I played with randomly eventually worked with me without prompting, covering each other while one sniped, or acting as a medic hiding away to heal others instead of just dying early and leaving others to bleed to death.
Mostly its problem that perception is everyone is lucking after themselves so trusting them is hard unless you know them. I saved there butts so many times while sniping they knew they wern't wasting there time covering me, they just laughed at randoms who scream "hax!!!!111one111", though sniping at 1 foot is funny sometimes since bullet at center of chest can't miss but SAW > sniper so must moan and accuse.....
<end rant>
Wish more medics would try and stay alive like in your guide though. Bleeding while green as a sniper isn't to bad... but when you can't get a medic to heal you I just throw the gun down cos its pointless.
Eight months later I finally received the reports from three peer-reviews on my latest manuscript with the University of Toronto Press. This will be my third book with the same press and the second...

Rage makes a great case for using the VR as a place for training as a sniper. Virtual training rooms for training in virtual warfare.
This post is a great TG read:
