8800GT The one card to rule them all.

If you feel your card is crappy for Crysis, seems like Nvidia would like remedy this with 8800 GT which is released this week. Its seems is basically leaves all other Nvidia card in the dust Price/Performance wise.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=9

Perfomance very close to GTX on stock frequencies and priced half 200-250$

Now the question is what will ATI respond with the 15th of November they are going to be better?.

PC gaming is just getting better and better. Imagine 2 of these and crysis or COD4 or UT3 or ....... To many games to count.

Found a price: 233 for sale now. If you feel like trying Quake wars.

Evga with Quake wars at Newegg

Ohhh, and its smaller. I may buy one, that price is good, and its cheaper than my 320mb GTS. I paid 305$ for the OC'ed version. I'll only buy this though, if there are at least 3-5 more months before the new 9xxx line comes out.

I doubt nvidia will release a 9000 series anytime soon since ADM isn't releasing anything that beats the 8800GTX. Maybe next November.

Supposedly, its got less memory at a smaller bitrate, but performs better in some applications. For a smaller price tag, it may be a more feasible upgrade!

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

Nvidia is planning a new GTS 640 as well that will be faster than the GT and the new top end will arrive in Q1 2008 the rumor is it will be two GTs on one card. Then the complete next gen will be late 2008. Even with all these coming out the GT will just be so good. You buy one now and then buy another later and you dont have to shell out to much money and can upgrade based on need when the games are out.

I hope this is the new strategy for Nvidia as it makes more sense. Much better than a new architecture every year.

I like buying one card now in a acceptable price range then buy a second when I need it and so on. Will fit my budget much better.

ATI is also talking Quad-Crossfire next year and if the card are around 200 each it might actually be something to look into. I think we are going into the Multi GPUs era next year.

Well eventually cards need to have dx10.1 compatible GPUs, so in a year or so all the 8000 series will be quite behind.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

Aye, there's been a lot of talk about DX10.1, but the current stock of games running in DX10 mode seem like they don't get good performance, so I'm not too worried with getting a DX10 card. Gonna wait a few weeks and see if there's any news on the "other," card they're working on. At the same time, $270 is such a steal...

So a generation of cards that had it's first iteration a year ago. Will be behind the curve a year from now is a safe bet. DX10.1 will just be a standardized set for card manufacturers so game designers can create inside a box.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

Sad for gts users . If I had known about this 6 weeks ago I probably would have waited on the video card purchase.

EDIT: Just saw evga stepup now has the gt available, although its a step down in price I wonder if I can do it, and whether it's actually worth it.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

Seem like the 8800 GT 512MB will end up around 229. I hope Best Buy will get them so I can use a 10% off and be able to return it if newer cards come out that I like better.

Polska, I though it has been know for quite some time that the 8800GT was coming out and was most likely be a better buy that the older GTS. But I guess it cant be fun, but at least your GTS is not that bad compared to the 8800GT its just cost you more, for us that did not get a 8800 card before and patiently waited for 2900XT that was crap, this is much better.

I am still holding my purchase 2 more weeks until we see what ATI can do with the 3800 series.

My hunch is that they will have to go better than 8800GT or cheaper if not I think ATI are going to be hurting bad this christmas.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

I didn't really see anyone talking about the gt until maybe 2-3 weeks ago on the forums/communities I frequent. Also, nothing was official when I did begin hearing about it. It's hard to believe they would release a card nearly as good as a gtx for half the price. Anyway, I am not regretting my purchase as it is a great card, but having paid more for a card which is now inferior to the gt kinds of hurts .

I don't really see a reason for them to release anything new at this point unless ati release something amazing. They still have the best cards available and the gt just blows everything away with its bang for the buck. If I put my money on anything is maybe slight price reductions on the gtxs/ultras.

I ordered the GT earlier today. I really should have waited to see what ATI will be bringing out, but I'm too impatient.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

Yes, but without the vague pre-release info. I should have waited for some real test comparisons. I prefer ATI of nVidia as well, but since AMD bought them, they have been doing nothing. I'm just too much of an impulse buyer and I may be kicking myself in a couple weeks.
