A plea to REPORT troublesome players.

Tonight I had the CC open and was intermittently checking on the chat logs. I had friends over and couldn't have TS running, but I WAS keeping track as much as I could. (I even let my gf drop the ban-hammer on an obscene name violation, she was so happy!) When the party got going, and I wasn't able to check back as often, it looks like rule breaking really ramped up. All the same, I was able to retroactively ban two people. A fighting commander who was informed that he was breaking the rules and replied 'That's for n00bs, check my score.', and a repeated RDX Jeeper. Both of these guys were reported by people not wearing the [TG] tags. Several others, including a guy who was not reported by name, and someone who's name wasn't spelled out well enough will return to hassle us again another day.

Come on folks. I know it's a hassle, and not having an admin watching like a hawk these guys can wreak all kinds of havoc, but take a moment and type out:
REPORTED: (Tag) Playername for ucb vehicle stealing.

I promise you if not I, someone will take action and you won't see them again without a serious attitude adjustment.

Keep the servers clean. Admins can't be everywhere and see everything. We rely on you.

Re: A plea to REPORT troublesome players.

This is a great point, Gloop. You never know when an admin is watching. I was playing the other night when it appeared that no admin was on. I typed out a few "ADMIN REPORTING:" messages and low and behold, someone (probably Gloop) was there behind the scenes ready to give them the boot.

It only take a few seconds and at the very least you draw attention to the person, hopefully encouraging them to change their behavior.

I should also take this moment to re-emphasize an earlier post:

Make sure that you are not overstepping your bounds as TG Members. You can politely confront the offender, make them aware of the penalty, and report them. DO NOT act as though you are the admin or threaten them.

Cool, thanks for the info. I was on last night late with JamesTerror, and there was the repeating Jihad Jeeper - Rugervonmagnum I think his name was.

I usually do not have TS open, because if I alt-tab, BF2142 dies.

Now that I know what to type, it will be easier for you guys to clean up the game play.

I just started using CC for are own server so now things are clearer, but don't think the general population knows that they can just type a message in (using the speak to all button - default is 'J' is think) and a Admin will see it in a log. Before i starting using CC i just thought what you type in dissapeared as fast as it does in game. ie you type something in and then medic!!!,medic!!,medic!! -its off the screen, gone. I don't think players realize that the admins have a back log that they just scan over for reports.

Not only that but it is important to remember that Admins can also see any text chat regardless of the channel it is in. So if you don't want to start a confrontation with the offending player you can use team or even squad chat and the admins will still see it.

Re: A plea to REPORT troublesome players.

Admin, Reported, reporting, these are all keywords we look for in chat to clue us in that something is happening.

Also, PromQueen has an excellent point. I personally hate to reprimand players who are trying to help, but threaten rule breakers with kicking or banning. The reasons that only admin are allowed to do this are good ones, and are there to promote clarity and accountability. Most players already know this and do an excellent job, but the rule needs to be enforced just like any other.

Most of you know this already, it's just a reminder, or an aid for newer members.

Re: A plea to REPORT troublesome players.

Well I will type out "reporting bla bla" most of the time but sometimes I do warn the player like "i'll say hey so and so jihad jeeping is against the rules of this server please dont do it" or if its one of my squadmates ill usually just say over voip "hey dude bunny hoppin is against server rules you seem like a cool dude i wouldnt want to see you kicked" and most the time i get "oh ok sorry" or "my bad i wont do it again" as their response. I never say "hey stop that or get kicked" or "stop stealing vehicles or we'll ban you" That is ok right?

^^^ nice. The goal is really to educate the players on the server and everyone can help with that.

That is perfect, thanks Rak!

One thing I wanted to add was if possible you should report every separate occurrence of a player breaking the rules. I'm not going to kick or ban on the first incidence of bunnyhopping, but after I've warned them twice, bad things are going to start happening to them. If I see two separate incidences of jihad jeeping, they're going to take a break for a while. If you report someone for ucb camping, see my warnings go by, and then a minute later they're still there, let me know.

Also, screenshots are a plus.

I do the same thing. In fact, I politely informed a fighting commander over VOIP just last week that he was breaking server rules, and his response was, "Oh, man, I'm sorry--I didn't know. No problem." And he promptly found a place to park it for the rest of the game.

Also, I've found that when I run a learn TG squad and have a few non-TGers in it (though I sometimes end up with an all-TG learn TG squad--go figure), if I ask before the round starts if anyone has any questions or needs clarifications on server rules, I'll sometimes get a question or two from the pubbies. That has cleared up some potentially rule-breaking situations before they ever occurred.

Re: A plea to REPORT troublesome players.

I'm not sure if any admin was on this morning, but from about 10am to 12pm, my squad and I reported several players (one also had a |TG| tag on) via chat. Concrete and Gator were part of my squad and they can confirm this as well. Bunnyhopping was rampant along with UCB vehicle stealing and playing COs.

Re: A plea to REPORT troublesome players.

I've been on this morning, subject to work requirements. I was on to see you report a couple of people and not tell me what you were reporting them for!

It wasn't a negative comment, I was teasing him. I can just imagine the situation where you see someone break the rules and start to report him. Just after getting the REPORTING: and the name out, someone runs by you and you have to pull out your knife and collect some tags!
