COD 4 Unimpressive Sniper

I'm about fed up with this class.. half the time shots that I know hit are not recorded..
range isn't the issue because i've taken return fire from mp5s while the only thing showing from me was my head.. my target was in full sight standing. Are any of you folks having an issue such as the one described?

Check your ping and the ping of the players on the other team... It is LAG, 90% of the time.
I know the issue you are talking about, firing at an enemy standing still and watching him walk away.. But, you may see him standing still when he is already gone from that position.

Which is why FPS snipers need a simi-auto rifle to kill anything.

Re: COD 4 Unimpressive Sniper

ive had no problem with either the noob sniper rifle or the M700. Ive had worse luck with those semi autos. Dont aim directly on them, aim a pinch high.

Then if that fails do what you said, pull out your MP5 and kill them from across the map.

i use the G36c with a silencer, Helps keep me silent. And claymores are your best friend. I hate seeing everyone use them but they work so for now we have to deal with it

Re: COD 4 Unimpressive Sniper

Actually this is a problem with aim. It turns out the M21/SVD are just inaccurate. Half your shots will go just wide of the target. The beginner rifle, the M700, and the Barrett all work fine.

ya maybe thats the issue. i'm using the m21 and svd and both give me issues with penetration and hit prediction. ultimately i'm shooting for the m700 with elcan for midrange shooting which is pretty much where its at. semi autos are for run and gun folks. i think when i get the perk to carry 2 primaries i'll go with vanilla m700 and one with elcan and be able to hold my own at either range.

Re: COD 4 Unimpressive Sniper

I will take your word that they are probably inaccurate, but also most all the sniper rifles I have seen on that game have dramatic shot drop over distances. As mentioned before, aim high.

I would really like to see how lag effects the player's view from both sides. I am certain it has a big effect. We all really notice it when someone has a super high ping and goes flashing through the game, but I bet even at closer pings there is still a difference, just harder to detect. It would be really interesting to see the views of opposing players at the same time to see what they saw and when they saw it.

Re: COD 4 Unimpressive Sniper

well in the instance i describe the chap i was shooting at wasn't aware of me so i got off all 10 shots from the dragunov. after 3 shots i was doing the wtf dance in my seat so i cooked off the remainder to see if it continued to miss..

also if its a range thing then the mp5 shouldn't be hitting me either.

Re: COD 4 Unimpressive Sniper

I find you have to wait a long time before you get an accurate shot. When you steady your shot wait for the crosshair to completely stop (about 2 seconds after you steady), then your shot should be good.

The G36C or the P90 with a silencer are both great choices. I really like the way claymores (explosives in general) are implemented. First, they have little red trip beams so you can clearly see which way it's pointed. Second, they can be shot or blown up with other explosives. Third, they make a distinct "click" when they're tripped, giving an alert player a precious second or two to step back through the doorway.

OT: I haven't had good luck with sniping in CoD4 so far. Been mainly using the semi-auto's. I will have to give the bolt-action's a try.
