COD4 Server Modes / Re-Intro...

Hey guys, not sure if many remember me. I've been around TG for a while now, started out playing BF2, then pushed Red Orchestra here after it was released and was a game admin for it. I also developed a few modifications for RO trying to make it more TG friendly, but nothing seemed to get it going here. I was a game admin briefly for Armed Assault but ended up turning over my position as I started working on my COH/OF modification.

I've been spending my time working on a Company of Heroes/Opposing Fronts modification called Europe In Ruins - http://www.europeinruins.com - which is basically a persistent RTS based strategy modification. I'm still trying to get it compatible with Opposing Fronts but if any of you like RTS games at all, I encourage you to check it out.

I have read some reviews on COD4 and want to pick it up, but had some questions...

A) How are the TG servers in general? I've heard bad things about public servers being run-n-gun frag fests and I'm looking for a more tactical game.

B) What settings are we using? I'm a big fan of realistic weapon damage (one shot kills if necessary). It is my understanding that in multiplayer this is only offered on the hardcore game mode.

C) Anyone have any ideas on what modification can be expected for it? Maps? Enhanced realism?

Thanks for any responses, looking forward to seeing you guys on the field at some point.

Re: COD4 Server Modes / Re-Intro...

Well, found most of my answered in that disaster of a thread down the forums a bit... - http://www.tacticalgamer.com/call-du...od4-modes.html - Seems nothing has been set in stone yet which is fine with me, however what are the server populations like? It seems like this forum is slow and I read some messages about the COD4 servers having to be seeded... UGH!

BTW: For those clueless, I use to use the alias/handle: Tzefanya

Re: COD4 Server Modes / Re-Intro...

The TG servers are excellent, In the last few nights I have had some of the most fun in a non-ArmA game in quite some time. We are typically playing S&D mode (one life) with hardcore enabled. I do foresee some issues with balance, so no doubt we will be needing some modifications, but for right now it is very fun and teamplay is at a high level.

In my opinion, we need some larger maps to provide more alternative routes to key areas (most maps boil down to 2-3 routes and can easily create a camp-hold at key positions that become contested in almost all rounds played on that map. I would like to see more availability of non-lethal grenades (like smoke and flash) and less grenade spam. Weapons could also use some tweaking as certain combinations seem far more useful under hardcore than probably intended.

Currently it seems that HC breaks weapon balance pretty badly, so it'll take a realism mod to properly work this out for those who like that sort of thing. Right now, hip-shooting with a P-90 will pretty much out-gun anything at all but extreme ranges in HC.

Bommando, so I've heard. No big deal on that. Tweaking is to be expected when you try to turn a game into a simulation...

Hmm... no one on our server. That's disappointing.

Not when your around, reaper :P Every night I've hopped on to play, we always seem to get a decent turn-out. Decent being 8+ folks on S&D while about 16+ on the HQ/Dom server.

HQ/Dom is full right now. Population is getting better. If you get 6 people seeding, within a hour, maybe a little longer, you will get a better turnout. There are many people that want to hop onto a full server, but you've gotta give a little and help seed.

Re: COD4 Server Modes / Re-Intro...

You have to remember that not everyone has TG tags on in game. After a couple nights, I have seen guys who wear TG tags in the forums who don't in game and coming from one part of TG I am being introduced to new players who I have never seen before. On top of that, if we can provide a solid teamwork experience night in and night out, you will see the number of TG tags grow.

Re: COD4 Server Modes / Re-Intro...

We had the majority(80%) of the server TGers tonight. Was a really great time.

Re: COD4 Server Modes / Re-Intro...

When I logged off last night at 10:30, I saw the TG server only but it did have 17 people on it. However, I only saw one TG server, do we still use 2?

I reached level 11 last night in a little under 3 hours...Halfway to 12. Started out playing FFA to get to level 4 so I could create my own class then moved to other servers.

Most of the night, I was playing a S&D Hardcore Server that was pretty fun. It's run by some guys at another tactical site called Tactical Leaders (TL). They have rules and actively kick if you break them:

A) No grenades in first 20 seconds.
B) No bunny-hopping.
C) No R-N-G. Should be in iron sights when engaging 90% of the time.

They seemed to be an alright group, most of them were ridiculously skilled though and I seriously was left scratching my head a few times after dying and watching them play. If they weren't using aimbots, their twitch skills are ridiculous.

I'm not going to be bothered with a server that puts restrictions on nades.

The second server is still password protected. It is a hardcore S&D server.
