COD4 performance questions
I've noticed that I occasionally have what seem to be lag issues when playing COD4 on my laptop, on certain network connections. I sometimes see the "connection interrupted" message, and the little square icon that goes along with it, but more often, the game just freezes on my. My screen just freezes, then will resume play (usually with me dead) a few seconds later.
Wanted to see if this is indicative of lag in COD, as I'm used to the occasional rubber-banding lag problems in 2142, and this is nothing like that. Laptop is a new Thinkpad, Core2Duo 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 120GB hard drive @ 7200rpm, nVidia FX570M 256MB graphics, running WinVista Ultimate 64-bit. Main network connection I use is 3Mb/s cable, where I typically have no problems. Other location is 400kb/s full duplex, and that's where I usually have the problem. But last night, my son and I were both in COD4, on the TG server 1, and his performance was fine, and I was getting continual lag, here and there. I've noticed, that even playing on my notebook, on the 3Mb/s connection, that my map loads are so slow that I'm left out of the initial round of S&D. Laptop runs 2142, POE, everything else I've thrown at it, just fine. COD4 is only game I've run into problems. Appreciate any thoughts. |

Re: COD4 performance questions
Are you running the Vista sidebar? I find it has issues where once in a while it will eat CPU for a few seconds and cause games to lag. It also seems to have a memory leak to the point it takes up several hundred MBs. Although, I'm not sure if these issues are from the sidebar itself or the gadgets I have installed.

Re: COD4 performance questions
When watching other players I've notice this also. For example, one time a guy just popped up in front of me, we were both caught by surprise but ultimately I lost. But through watching the kill cam, I noticed that he did exactly what I thought. He was coming from behind a building and then for a brief second the screen froze, then started back with him right in front of me. Its odd because I have players on my team pop from one position to another sometimes.

Re: COD4 performance questions
I get the occasional freeze too. I think it's not my PC because the FPS are around 60, it never does it in single player nor in BF2142. My guess would be server issues.
