i just installed CS beta 5.2 again.... wow

got a server up and running and there should be some games around tuesday (6th).

only downside is i have a 256k upload limit (6-12 players) and with my 200mbit connection to the server i have a 5 ping

yup.

played for 20minutes, one of the guys (the one that organised it) couldnt get on, because his version of HL was different due to having a "new" halflife. Mine and most peoples are 1005version at default, and we use the 1005-1013 then 1013-1016 patch, but he was 1011 at default, and we couldnt find any patches for him without him there most of his clan mates didnt want to play.

anyway, the colt rocked back then, and it was very very nice to play it again...ahhhh the old days are always better huh

it was docks 24/7 due to the fact map changes crashed my server........lol

how you downgrade an upgrade? o.O

you need to install HL in another directory, and upgrade as you would back then, upto 1016 (last patch before new netcode i believe). Then install CSb52 or upto 6.1.

running the server is the difficult part. Since servers talk to won normaly and A: won doesnt let old servers run, and B: won is going soon, it gets hard. So what they do instead is run a LAN game, on a port like 27016 (default) then use some software to forward 27016 to 27015 (default wan port) and allow INTERNET based players to join lan games. Its very good, and normaly stable, but i must have messed up my install this time.

I think the problems is i installed it on my main pc, then copied the directory over to my server, over the lan (since the server has no cd drive). This may have caused CRC errors in files, hence maps dont run due to them being currupted? Who knows. When i leave the server up i get 2 or 3 people joining it per day, but much like the server here they rarely come on at the same time, and soon leave. Ive had a few 1on1's but its a team based game and sucks 1on1. Oh and my 0-5 ping doesnt help.

i had 2 good games of cs 1.6, then the other day i was on a server (jolt and had 2 admins there)... first a speed hacker, then someone with aimbot...sure the admins removed them fast but WHY the hell does it still happen?

Cause there will always be little people out there who can not develop the tactics and/or skills to be good at this game, yet can convince themselves about how great they are because they can copy a cheat off the internet and use it to beat those that they normally couldn't hang with in the game.
