Question The Irr Mission Statement?

What has become of the Irregular's mission statement? The Irregulars seem to have deviated from the original mission. I am off course?

Re: The Irr Mission Statement?

You have left me with no answers. Do you know of the statements made by one of the officers?

Re: The Irr Mission Statement?

From the Irregs Wiki:
Quote:
Mission statement

To provide a home for Battlefield 2* players who cannot commit to a regular squad for whatever reason. Open to all TG forum members, our strength shall come from a joint and pooled effort. We will strive to ease the transition of inductees from an external to an internal mindset through training, fighting together as a team, and mutual support. It is hoped we will be looked towards to provide a pool of potential recruits for the other in-house squads. Above all, the Irregulars will fight together when the opportunity arises and strive to be victorious, while having and achieving all above aims and goals. It is for those who would like a TG home-unit yet are not eligible, suitable, or interested in joining an in-house squad.

Our core membership consists of:

* Non-supporting members that are looking for consistent teammates and tactics.
* SM's looking for consistent teammates and tactics, but that can't make the full time commitment (practices, scrims, etc.) required by in-house squads.
* SM's contributing TG experience and tactics to help teach newer members.

NB *: The Irregulars game in the Battlefield series of titles, including the various mods that are supported by TG.

Re: The Irr Mission Statement?

Good observation on the mission statement BeSiege82. This is something that the Irregular leadership is currently addressing.

Again, good observation.

SSA out.

Re: The Irr Mission Statement?

I hope everyone realizes that A. this was a serious question, and B. is just the kind I would hope to see any Irreg, especially a Distinguished Irreg, make.

We have to have the guts to look at ourselves and assess accurately whether we are on course, both personally and as an organization. Some leaders could take this as a comment or challenge to them personally, but that would be a poor way for a leader to act.

Everyone should feel safe to bring up questions that challenge an apparent imbalance, injustice or simply a lack of direction, and be treated seriously. Pat comments or dismissive remarks simply say that we are not willing to even consider, let alone address, the issues brought up.

Hello my old friends,

In general, I am serious when posting.

As a former Irregular, I thought I should say a "pirate" joke

OK, seriously now, (thanks Axis for bringing the order here), what Irrs should do is to focus more on training.

In addition, I would like to see some "Irrs Platoon" events and scrims.

Or some "Learn TG" events, organized by the Irrs.

I disagree with this. Training and set events as the focus of the Irregs seems counter-intuitive to the flexibility the Irregs was created to provide. From my experience with the Irregulars (going back to before I was an Irregular), it seems that the original focus was to form a community structure where people who couldn't fulfill the commitments of a full IHS could still build camaraderie with people with similar TG mindset but also had similar limitations to time. Since we were focused on one game on one server, although they were called the Irregulars, you could still expect to see other Irregs with some regularity (sounds odd, I know). Since we are now so spread out (BF2x in 3 flavors), it's harder regularly see fellow Irregs that you actually know, much less trust enough to join a squad with. On top of that, sometimes it's not even you can't find other Irregs - it's that you don't trust them enough to play with them.

In the past, would Irregs play in IHS led squads? Yes, but the difference, at least how I feel, is that there was less focus on the "eliteness" of the IHS and more focus on the play style of that IHS. For example, you played with 1st-MIP for a more simulation type experience and maybe with the 7th for a more aggressive, tactically experimental experience. However, that is not to say that those not in IHS did not have their own, distinctive styles. Now, we look too much to IHS to create the experience for us. Have a server balance problem? Blame the IHS. Gameplay been on a slump recently? Yell at the IHS to commit more time to playing. We have forgotten that the IHS started as groups of people who just want to play together with a similar style AND have fun. We have put too much focus on |TG-#| and have lost faith in plain old |TG|.

So, what to do? I think the first thing we need to do in the Irregs is a major undertaking - re-establish confidence in being just TG. Stop waiting for an IHS squad to start and start your own. Give new SL's a chance and stop jumping out of their squads when you see a spot open in a 3rd, 5th, 12th, etc, squad. Try to get on the team with fewer IHS and get to know your normal, plain TG members. This will help the Irregs to develop stronger leaders, like Kilevri1, who take charge and can bring IHS and non-IHS together.

Second, I think the Irregs needs to change some of our mindset of our role in TG. For me, the Irregs has always seemed like the local pub of TG - we are here to help build the community, have fun, and, for some, you may meet your new group of friends, an IHS. It's the first place you go to if you really want to know the locals. Conversely, if you are a local, as we are, you should really concern yourself with giving visitors the best impression of your home. Only ~20 players on the server at any given time are IHS - what are YOU going to try to do about the other 30-40? Stop ignoring them or wishing they weren't here.

Lastly, thinking of the Irregs as a springboard to or a candidate-training pool for IHS has always been a bit distasteful for me. I don't want to see the Irregs become a revolving door for IHS squads to find people who might be committed to staying in TG for a while. I mean, I'm glad that many of our recent members have moved off to the IHS squads that match them. However, I would really like to see more commitment to the Irregs from new members.

I think most of you are tired of reading my writing. I think I'll stop here.

Re: The Irr Mission Statement?

Here is my take on things. BTW my earlier post was just a reference to President Bush policy on the situation in the middle east.

Being an irregular means you support the ideals of the TG community and you game by its standards. In addition you get to be a part of an organization that meets up in games on a meet and play basis. There is little planning involved, just show up and play.

The mission statement? Well the irregulars train individuals to become accustomed to the ideals of the TG community and hopefully that individual will become a supporting member and move on to a TG In-House-Squad.

For some of us we simply chose to stay irregular for life due to a hectic crazy life like me (hard working A student). I can't play during the week but during the weekend I can get some gaming in.

Anyways whos up for some PR/POE? I will be playing a bit this weekend. Add me on xfire: xcannon69
If you have SWAT 4 you should show up for the swat 4 event on sunday we could use some extra police officers!!
