FFoW Tips and Tricks - aka Stuff I learned about FFOW today

You can't invite people to your squad when they are dead

the statue head can be blown off with an airstrike

The beta servers have been renamed and its now easy to find the servers your TG buddies are on

How is it easy? Just because the server names are little more logical/easy to decipher?

well tonight Rock and myself were in a server, snail turned up on teamspeak and i just said join "beyond3D - streets map". A few days ago it was THQ 316/245, its easier to remember the name of the server. Easy that way.

Re: Stuff I learn about FFOW today

If you are in an armoured vehicle and you have deployed with the support role (the one with level one repair touch) then you can automatically repair your armour without getting out. About 6 secs after you take damage you will automatically start repairing at about 10% of health repair per sec. You see a blue on the right hand side while repairing. Because you aren't getting out for this there is no risk of someone stealing your tank and you can continue to scan or engage the enemy. I'm not sure whether or not this repair facility only works when you are taking no damage from incoming fire.

I wonder if that works if anyone in the vehicle is ground support role?

... or if you repair faster with multiple ground-support roles in the vehicle...

I'm down to do some repair testing. When Silver was showing me around, the repair even worked while capping a flag after I killed the last enemy.

I found out that taking out enemy heli was alot easier when you aim for it a while to get a lock-on.

Same with the other targets.

found out that if the driver is not support but the F2 gunner is then the tank still repairs

Re: Stuff I learn about FFOW today

Played a number of rounds today and I started to get a little annoyed with all of the invisible walls and obstructions around the map. In particular, Streets. Is this just the usual beta testing stuff? I had several views of players that appeared levitated and I could not shoot them. There were clearly barriers between us. (no, I wasn't smoking anything)

Trying to navigate through debris piles was tough and from the second level of fuel station the delicate limbs of the tree created a giant dead spot that you could not shoot through. Hopefully just beta stuff.

Anything is possible with video, but I have a 8800 GT OC 512. The thing that was most strange was that I could see the debris piles and climb on them but there seemed to be a 2-4 foot invisible layer above some of it.
I do not have the same problem on Oil Field. I will change a few settings to see if that makes a difference. If nobody else notices it, it must be my settings.

I found out that your gun is rendered inoperable when sprinting. If you run around a corner you will not be able to fire the gun.

Yeah, those "invisible" walls are annoying. Took me a little while to figure it out the first time I emptied a clip into a guy and showed no hits at all and then he got me. I must have been shooting into the wall whereas he was shooting above it and nailing me.

I don't like the fact you can't form or enter a squad until after you have deployed.

I believe this actually goes back to BF2 days when there was something called squad hopping. When dead people would choose the most favorable spawn point from captured flags and all the squad leaders. There also used to be something called SL cycling where a squad would keep going by the dead squad leader leaving and rejoining their squad, people would leave and rejoin until one of the six who was alive was the SL adn they could all respawn. A BF2 patch made both of these methods obsolete and FFOW is stopping them upfront by making it so people have to be alive to join a squad and when the squad leader leaves the squad the squad disbands. BF2 had one exception that during the 1 min countdown before 1st spawn you could join a squad, hopefully FFOW will have something similar, but its not in the beta.

A long historical answer, but I hope that gives you a fuller picture.
