Power supply question

I'm going to be upgrading my graphics card in a month or two. I thought I would go ahead and get the power supply and new case now. I was looking at this case and power supply:
Antec Nine Hundred

Up for suggestions on the the power supply. Would like to get ~850w and also modular if possible.

Is a 850w good for this combo:
Asus P5E mb
e6750 dual core 2.4
Graphics card, not decided here, either the ATI 3870, 3870 X2, or the 8800 gts
2 gig Corsair Dominator PC8500
Creative ExtremeGamer Fatality
2 DVD drives
1 160 gig 7200rpm SATA HD
1 150 gig 10krpm raptor (will be added later on, but want to make sure it will be okay)
and the old floppy.

that power supply is made of some of the best parts in the world and is rated to run 750 Watts 24/7. very very very few PSU's will run their rated output 24/7 and it peaks at 825w. i have a similar rig to you in regards to power requirements (but an 8800GTX) and this PSU has been running stable since day 1. I'm in love. (a rig like you listed will probably max out at near 600W under full load. and power requirements will only get smaller in the future with die shrinks etc. it's not modular but a few zip ties take care of the extra wires.

Every PCP&C PSU goes through certification before it leaves the factory, in other words they test each and ever PSU they make to make sure that it run's as specified.

I have a really good battery backup power source with a little LCD meter on it showing power drain usage, and have never seen it get very high, so thinking my 620 watt is good enough, and should only get better as stickyjeans said with power needs finally starting to go down with die shrinks.
I actually decided on the 620 model after reading tons of review that all say amazing stuff like this one:

And if you look in the sitcky section of this forum you will see a post about which power supplys are good and which aren't. Corsairs are up there, and they are modular. My case is so clean now without all the extra wires. Very happy with modular.

The Antec 900 is a good case and a top reviewed one on newegg, but I would get burned out on the neon color on all the time. And up to you if you like the window thing. It does keep your rig very cool though, and lots of room to work.

I paid $130 something for mine, but it is the best case I have ever worked in. You can hide all your wires behind the motherboard tray so your case is super clean and quiet, and it has just as good of air flow as the 900. Also liked the p182 because it has a removable hard drive rack right where your graf. card sticks out, and if you are considering a long graf. card like the GTX or one of the new X2's from either ATI or Nvidia, those cards are very long and won't fit in many cases without some cutting.

Notice in the 2nd one there is the little box that is removeable? You have another hard drive cage in the bottom, so you don't even need that top cage unless you have like 5 hard drives, so you take it out making more room for long graf. cards, plus you get better air flow in the case.

Its a full tower, has some extra room. Seems to have decent reviews and I've seen a build done with one before. What do you guys think?

this site can give you an idea but unless you get 2 video car you will most likely never cross the 500 watt.

As for the 900 i love it but it's a bit of a pain in the ass to set up the drive else then that it keep my pc really cool

Yeah probably around 600-700W is good enough and I would probably go for 4GB of memory, By the way what OS are you planning on running?

Apologies for stealing this thread a little bit mach, but I was just wondering about the Antec Nine Hundred in my own build. My only worry is 2 USB ports only. Now I was thinking, is that a really small number, or am I missing something...does your mobo carry the main USB ports for your system?

Yes, most computers only have 2 USB ports on the front, just for easy access, like a thumb drive or hooking up a camera real quick.
You motherboard should have a min. of 2, and some up to 8 on the back. My current MB has 6 on the back, and it came with an extra "card" that fits in where you would normally put in a PCI card, and has 2 extra USB and 1 firewire ports. It doesn't actually go in a pci slot, just uses the whole in the back of the case.

I had read a review that said that Ultra PSU's are not to shabby either. I have bought a 550W one a year or 2 ago and all is well with it. So since I had no issues from it I decided to get another ultra PSU rated at 750W and not to high on the price. Apparently they are doing good cause the PSU I got from zipzoomfly they are out of stock already.

I also like the modular PSU, cleans up a little bit of the unused wires that may not get used.

If you want you could get one that supports both the 8 pin power and 6 pin for the PCI-E 2.0 cards, the 8 pin can deliver more power when needed, a 6 pin is capped at 75-150 watts, but an 8 pin can deliver up to 300+ watts for those heavy battle scenes.
The one you linked to seems good as it has 2 x 6pin and 2 x 8 pin, so that will support newer PCI-E 2.0 cards, so will 6 pin, but the 8 pin delivers more power when needed.....just something to bear in mind on your quest.
And I think the 8800 gts is PCI-E 2.0..and your MB too....@ 2 x 16 lanes....nice....if your going to add a second card in at a later stage then I would get a high wattage PSU,it may seem overkill but at least you will know you can add in a second graphics card without having to worry about if you have enough power or not.

Yep its a good case alright, minor cabling issues with it according to overclockersclub.com, but they gave it the thumbs up none the less, has nice cooling too....the review they do on it is quite detailed and has lots of images.

yea, it is a good case, but I'm going to go with the cooler master cosmos. Its a full tower with more room for the new vid cards, has good cooling, and is supposed to be a fairly quiet case.
