Re: x64 and gaming.

There are several people here who use Vista x64 and game with little to no issues. I'm not sure how XP x64 stacks up especially since M$ seems to be pushing XP to the wayside.

Wow, a bit impatient aren't we?
You need to look through the last 2-3 pages of recent forum threads for your answer. We just talked about this 2-3 times recently, with long answers from people already using 64 and like it.
I am on Vista 64 and it has been great, even with PR.
From what I have read though, I would go with Vista 64 over XP 64 though, as it actually has better support.

Re: x64 and gaming.

Cappy,

I use XP x64 daily for both work and play. I have not had any problems whatsoever. I have played the source games, BF series +mods, WIC, FFOW, & even my kids Bob the Builder without incidence.

Re: x64 and gaming.

I have Vista 64 bit and have no issues with it but I had heard quite a few horror stories about Xp 64 bit having driver problems. A lot of hardware would either not have XP 64 bit drivers or have a lot of bugs with the drivers that were available
I guess the big thing for you to do before making the jump is check all your hardware manufacturers and make sure they have drivers available for XP 64 bit and also try looking insome manufacturers support to see if anybody else has issues using those drivers.
Before I made the jump from XP Pro to vista I read around, check for the hardware drivers to make sure all was available and there was minimal problems with the drivers being used with that hardware and Vista 64 bit.
So Bamboo I am loving Vista Ulitimate 64 bit, taking some time to get use to it though. I think that is the biggest problem most people have, they don't want to take the time to get to know Vista and automatically condemn it. It is also running sweetly on my new computer set up. so far it is pretty fast.

Re: x64 and gaming.

I'm on xp 64 bit. No problems at all.

Lots of drivers around now compared to what there was 2 years ago.

Games play fine. Cod4, Crysis, Frontlines, Bf2, 2142 etc.

Also, 64 bit allows you to have 4 gigs of ram, 32 bit I don't think you can?

Re: x64 and gaming.

You should be able to upgrade from XP home to Vista 64. I'd definitely go with Vista if you want to experience DirectX 10x.

hey kin3, are you sure that 9900 GTS 512 in your tag isn't a 8800GTS?

Re: x64 and gaming.

I must have spent 15 minutes searching the web for those 9-series cards when I saw that post.
