Re: Game Recorders

no it's not... and it's a shame that people can't use the free version...or pay the dude, yes one guy who made and keeps this great program updated and free once you buy one time...

OK, off soap box...

If you don't want to use any of those programs, and/or don't want to use the computers resources for video capture...here is a work-around, and it's legal...

Most of todays cards have a monitor output and at least an S video output... the newer nice onces even have more options... if you have a simple digital video camcorder... you can usually hook the S video out of your graphic card into the input of your video camcorder, then either use a split for the audio one into your speakers and the other into the camcorder... and then simply activate the second monitor to "clone" the first and play your game, hit record on your camcorder and there you have it video/audio capture without ANY hit to your computer resources...

to load it into your PC...just connect your camcorder to your PC via USB or firewire... capture just like any video...can use the free Microsoft Movie Maker.

just FYI.

Re: Game Recorders

Wouldn't Microsoft Movie Maker deny you the use of non-Encumbered codecs? Fail.

Remove GameCam from the list; their website explicitly says that Source games do not record successfully.

Re: Game Recorders

I remember seeing also something that GameCam doesnt like punkbuster.
Meaning that if you want to record something with it, you'd need to be in singleplayer.

Re: Game Recorders

WeGame is great. It's free, has HD capture for movie makers or just regular for people who just want to record for the fun of it. With Fraps I get way too much lag. For some reason though I am not able to record sound at all on any recording program. It comes out in horrible quality. Does anyone know the reason for this?

Try turning down your "Wave" sound in the Volume Control window and turning up "Volume Control"

Re: Game Recorders

Should I turn the Wave sound all the way off or just much lower? And what does the Wave sound actually do?

Don't turn it all the way down, just lower. From what I understand the Wave Sound is the sound that is expected to be outbound from your system, what you hear coming out of your speakers.

Thanks kevlarorc. Your advise worked. My sound for my Fraps is much better now.

Re: Game Recorders

I agree, WeGame is very nice.

Tried recording some CSS in HD mode and it was very nice, although the file was huge for just only a few minutes.
