How server 1 died.

I have been noticing a lack of players at "peek" hours of the day on TacticalGamer.com - CoD4 SRV1 HardCore. We had a huge population of people that were filling the server which has diminished to nearly none which saddens me. I do agree that it is nice to get away from the S&D over and over again, but for it not to be S&D 100% seems to have ruined the server for many people. What I think we can do to fix this is to put it back to straight Search & Destroy like it used to be. Instead of having it so that it randomly goes to different game types we should be able to vote for that and let the majority decide whether or not they want to play a different style of game play. I know all the people have just shifted over to server 2, but it seems like a majority of the people that loved the server do not play as much. Let me know what you think.

Re: How server 1 died.

I think they need to copy the exact server settings, map rotations, etc, from early feb and paste it onto server 1. exactly the same as it used to be.

currently, it gets caught on on maps. TAKE THEM OFF THE SERVER
currently, it is 5pm and the server is empty. It's not difficult to figure out why.

Re: How server 1 died.

S&D for me but anything would be better than this stagnant server situ.

As I've posted else where I'm finding my self spending more & more time on other servers.

That's a shame as I was getting to know a lot of the guys here which was leading to some quite intense battles.

Mind you this post could start the discussion ref S&D all over again.............

Re: How server 1 died.

I have noticed that the core group seems to have shifted to server 2. It's rather simple for me if there are 10 players on one server and only 3 on the other I join the larger of the two. I don't choose the server based on the merits of the maps or game mode.

As such I have been playing on server 2 more frequently as it seems more popular. The quality of custom maps is improving which makes it more enjoyable.

Frankly I'm getting a little bored with COD4 now that I have ranked up fully and unlocked everything except for skins. If server one was straight S&D with a vote to change play style thats fine with me but the current setup is fine as well IMO.

not to derail the topic, but it is quite ironic that the title is "How server 1 died" and the OP is Extinct.

Sorry guys, had to mention it.

Re: How server 1 died.

The reason server 2 is more popular is not because of the S&D gamemode, it is because of the new maps we regularly put on for everyone. Server 1 is playing 3 S&D, 1 HQ, 3 S&D, 1 DOM on stock maps. Also keep in mind that Servers don't magically become full, people have to seed them, so if you want to support the servers, seed it and they will come.

EDIT: It is also not in TG's interests to have 2 servers running full-time S&D and we wish to cater to as many people as possible gameplay wise. This comes down from the very top here at TG.

You create your own reality.

If there's no one on the server, seed it. Use watermelons for target practice while you wait if you want. If ten guys see the server is empty and move on instead of trying to seed, well, that could have been a game.

Re: How server 1 died.

Ikonic and drona are speaking the truth! The core does play on server 2 because of the new maps and that is way it is populated. If the guys that wanted to play regular s&d just got on the server instead of joining the most populated, you would see server 1 populated again. The problem is that the core guys are the main ones who populated the servers, now that they are playing the new maps, server 1 never has anyone to seed it. Poor thing, just sitting there all by itself with no one to play with. Anyway, this is how server 1 got populated to begin with, the core guys would join and wait.

Re: How server 1 died.

Thank you for understanding Mach. It is a bit amazing that we attempt to include gamemodes people want/enjoy, only for it to be "abandoned" and have the finger pointed to gamemodes/admins/whoever else. Instead of looking and blaming something that is arbitrary, I think a good hard look needs to be on all the players that frequent the server and to appreciate what is provided.

Re: How server 1 died.

Are we not missing the fact that most times I look at the server it's got stuck and needs someone to step it on.
Also I am happy to seed as I know once you get one on the server in my experience it soon does fill up so please don't preach to me.

So yes if I can not get on I go else where and once there I tend to stay.
Certainly the time lag is a factor as most your side of the pond are still at work/ college ect. and as such there are no admins about.

That's just tough for me but it does mean if the server keeps failing it has to stay down for a chunk of time I assume because of the time lag until admin arrive.

I completely agree ikonic. Similar to what I said in another forum category but with much better usage of words. I not go college or be smart sometimes.

Re: How server 1 died.

My apologies, I did not mean to "point any fingers" I was just stating that our TG Cod4 server 1 was getting more attention because a bigger population like to play on it, I understand a big shift of the core players have taken to server 2 wheter it be a change of scenery or just to get the new mod working and fix all the bugs, whatever it may be I will start seeding Server 1 and hopefully it will spring back to life again.

Agreed, very nice map 12.5 just wish we could get it on server 1 :P.
