So i just got a new laptop yesterday that is a heck of a lot better then my old one. The only problem is now I can't really play source because of vista. My screen flashes every now and then and overall the game is a bit sluggish. If anyone has any ideas on how to help let me know. I'm dying!!!!!!!!

Also no tips that have to deal with uninstalling vista.

It is probably overheating. Run msconfig and go into services. Disable search indexer. That should free up some ram and alleviate the burden on your cpu. There's other ones to turn off but I can't remember which, and I wouldn't recommend just randomly turning them off. In fact, don't do that.

Could you get an external harddrive with Xp and run the game off that ?

Please give us more info mate. Does anything else work? Have you updated drivers etc?

updating the drivers was the first thing i thought of and they were already up to date. Everything else on my comp is working fine. I've only noticed this happening for source. I also plan on getting BF 2 shortly and trying that out. As for the external hard drive I can't do that because I don't really have the money for it.

Can't u use older drivers? Some kind of forceware that would help? Just asking anybody know of this?

I run vista and I dont have any problems! It works just fine!

So I think vista isn't the problem - except - which version of vista is it?

Sounds like you need to add steam to your firewall exceptions

I might have to do the firewall thing. I dont think its vista but more of my graphics card which is an intel and not nvidia or ati.
