Some have suggested that they'll vote for a Democrat just to punish the Republican party for picking such poor candidates, thereby forcing it to pick someone better next time, or in other races. If you instead vote for Barr, you give a better idea of what you really want. (Assuming you want smaller government, fiscal responsibility, and personal liberty.)

Just for fun I started reading some of the comments left by the Libertarians on your links, Scratch. Half of them are so convinced that he's just a Republican in disguise that they refuse to vote for him. One of them outright admitted that he doesn't see "getting elected" as a worthwhile pursuit of the Libertarian party.

I am now more convinced than ever that we will never break our 2-party monopoly. =/

Very little of the governmental problem is executive. The purpose of the executive branch is to mediate the other branches and have an on-the-spot decision-maker in times of crisis. The libertarians should go after legislative, from city hall to capitol hill, and bust the skulls of the turkeys who are beholden to special interest, personal interest, or lack of interest, in their positions.

Bear in mind he didn't specify "getting elected President". No, he didn't think Libertarians should worry about getting elected to anything. They were just there in his mind to cause friction with the Republicans and make outrageous claims. I can only hope this man was an anomaly in the Libertarian party, because if he represents their core supporters, the Libertarian movement has no chance.

If you do, you immediately LOSE everyvote that is against chocolate-dipped bananas. If you don't, you keep them, and you still get votes from fairies and fairy-fans because as long as all candidates are marriage-traditionalists, the point is moot, and thus you get those votes on the issues you base your platform on.

The problem is that libertarians are just as likely to have identified themselves as liberals as conservatives. Granted, in this particular election, the spectrum has shifted and there will probably be more Republicans voting Libertarian than Democrats, but I think you're a little off on your understanding of the Libertarian Party. It is NOT a "conservative" party.
