Question How much life is left in 2142?

Gentlemen,

The TG servers for BF2 were always by far and away my favorite and I used to play avidly, so I thought I'd come here to inquire about 2142. I've taken an extended break from the Battlefield series for quite awhile and am only just now considering purchasing 2142. I was simply curious, as it's been out for some time now, is there much life left in it and will there be for say the next year or so?

I see there are still relatively recent posts on this board, so I rather suspect the game isn't dead; what I'm actually concerned about is it's continued lifetime going forward. Do many of you anticipate migrating to other games soon? If so which? Is there a game in the tactical shooter/action genre that you prefer or would suggest instead (I'm considering Frontlines: Fuel of War, for instance)?

Thank-you in advance for your help, and I may be seeing you on your servers again soon =)

Re: How much life is left in 2142?

I see quite a bit of life left in the ole girl yet.

Our main server is usually full. We are seeing new faces on the boards and servers regularly. Our internal competitions, scrimmages, and events are still quite well attended. We are still having a LOT of fun here!

A new patch (1.5) with two new maps is due out in the next few weeks.

I think you'll find it worth the purchase.

I expect to be able to ride 2142 into the release of BF3. (with a short detour to my xbox360 for BF: Bad Company)

With respect to FFOW I do not suggest purchasing it. Bear in mind however I have only limited experience with it. Several folks here were involved in beta testing and continued to play after it came out. I refer you to them for a better informed opinion.

BF2142 is here to stay for some time to come. The server seeds quite readily in the morning at stays full until 3-4 am EST every single night. You won't go wrong investing in this title.

I would have to agree. I was an early adopter and an avid open beta player, and what we were delivered at release was the beta with the single player story added in. Due to significant bugs and missing features the world population of players is at max around 80, and is usually far less on average.

I still remain hopeful that future patches will help rectify the problems, but there is only so long to wait until another title comes along.... (BF3 perhaps...).

Re: How much life is left in 2142?

2142 is going strong still. I suspect it will be strong for the rest of the year at least. I just don't see any fps game on the horizon that will be the "BF killer" people are looking for.

FFOW had potential. But, for the PC it is dead. There were 15 people in the world playing it last night during prime gaming time. 15 total people...

Age of Conan is pulling some vets away from 2142, But time and time again, those veteran players are replaced with new blood. I expect this to continue.

Not as much as there was in the begining, but the playerbase has matured somewhat and the game's following is quite solid. There is plenty of life left in the game. FFOW is a fun single-player game (at least I thought so) but the MP is virtually dead due to a lack of proper squad/CO structure, lack of ingame VOIP, and a horrendous MP server information screen. It is pretty much unplayable.

As for BF2142, I would honestly suggest you try it out. Hop onto TeamSpeak and join the TG BF2142 channel -- we'll find you a TG squad and show you how the game's meant to be played. (Be aware, though, that if TG is your first BF2142 experience, you are being spoiled because most pubbie servers are less fun: TG places an extremely strong exmphasis on teamwork, maturity and tactics. I would even go so far as to suggest that you get your first ten or so ranks on public servers, just so you can fully appreciate what TG offers. )

Zhohar, How can you wish pub servers on anyone?

If you are used to TG BF2 servers it should fit like a glove, I used to play as a pub on TG BF2 servers all the time, but jumped in the forums and TS when I picked up 2142. There is still plenty of life left in the game, hop on and join us.

Re: How much life is left in 2142?

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to pick it up soon =)

Oh, in BF2 (at least when I was playing) it was only possible to earn ranks/unlocks when playing on official servers and many of the unlocks were unusable in TG anyway if I recall. From what I've read it seems unlocks play a far greater role in 2142--will they transfer to TG servers and is it possible for me to earn them at TG or am I stuck in purgatory for the next 3 months while I unlock everything I need to be reasonably competitive?

WAIT! hold that credit card!

Ok do you intend to do cd or direct download, direct download has 2142 and expansion for 30, same price as just 2142. ALSO, make a brand new ea account, or risk having to wait for customer support to FIX ur ea link login info. (Many ppl had this issue with using old ea link accounts with new ea store)
:P

Even when you are starting off as a newb, kits lie on the ground from fallen comrades and enemies.....just grab what you can (press "G" by default) and you'll get by. Unlock your assault kit to near full first and you'll generally be fine!

Any unlocks on a ranked server move with you too so it's all good

TGs 2142 server is a ranked server. you can earn all unlocks etc on it. Some awards are difficult to obtain on TGs server due to the style of play we have.

Be a squad leader, tell everyone to hold spawn while you're in the buggy, and then change your mind a lot about which flag to attack

By the by, Allectus, when you've done installing and patching the game, post your ingame soldier name here so we can keep a lookout for you on the TG server. I'll throw you a squad invite if I see you.
