Power usage charts?
Basically I'm looking for charts that show comparisons between AMD and Intel power usage. I found an old one on Tom's Hardware, but can't seem to find anything more recent than 2006. I suppose I could just go to either Newegg or the manufacturers' sites and get the advertised power usage, but I was curious if anyone had any third-party sites with test result charts and such.

Re: Power usage charts?
I havent seen a full chart that I can remember except for Tom's.
Most good reviews of a CPU also talk about power usage, so you could look at some of the better tech sites and search for the chips you are interested in. I know the thread we had about the e8400 here in the forum had some links to reviews that talked about power usage, and compared it to other chips since they are based on the 45nm die, and wanted to show them compared to a 65nm process like the e6600. These are some of the sites I check everyday, and should let you find what you are looking for: http://www.legitreviews.com/ http://www.dailytech.com/ http://www.tweaktown.com/ http://hardwarelogic.com/ http://www.techarp.com/ http://www.anandtech.com/ http://www.xbitlabs.com/ http://www.techpowerup.com/ http://www.hothardware.com/ http://techreport.com/ This one for instance might give you what you want: http://techreport.com/articles.x/14756 Isn't TDP on the charts the watts usage?

Re: Power usage charts?
In a way. However, a bit of research on TDP says that Intel and AMD define and measure it differently, so it's on the side of inaccurate. Intel understates it, and AMD overstates it. Yet another reason for me to dig around for a 3rd party chart.

I'm not sure about the desktop market but I know that in the Server market, some people prefer AMD platforms because they use less power.

Re: Power usage charts?
The part you mention above about Intel will change when Nehalem comes out next year (or at the end of 08'), since they are going with the integrated memory controller as well.

Re: Power usage charts?
True but if you're looking for a CPU RIGHT NOW and power usage is a concern, that is something worth considering.
