Rise of Nations is a real-time strategy computer game, developed by Big Huge Games and published by Microsoft on May 20, 2003. The development of the game was led by veteran Brian Reynolds, of Civilization II and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Concepts taken from turn-based strategy games have been added into the game--including territories and attrition warfare.[3] Rise of Nations features 18 civilizations, playable through 8 ages of world history.

On April 28, 2004, Big Huge Games released Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots, an expansion pack. Later that year, a Gold edition of Rise of Nations was released, which included both the original and the expansion.

Much like previous Microsoft games, RoN followed in the RTS tradition of Age of Empires. However this time more focus was put on rescource-management instead of micro-management. Being able to quickly calculate what research at what moment would advance your nation faster is must.
6 Years later... RoN still holds a close following, Lobby's are populated with a minimal of 25 players and a maximum of 100+ during late nights (European time). And the players who played this 6 years back, stil pop in from time to time. I myself have been playng RoN on and off since release. At the moment im playing again, new players might have a hard time to fit in. Games are limited to deathmatches and mostly nomad(difficult settings).

The Lobby is still as instable as it always was, but that wont stop me. I will still be playing this game, and if your interested either discuss this game here or get it now!

I hope some might pop up so we could form a close community and even entise new players

I play it from time to time.. I dont have it currently installed... I do have AoE II: Age of Conquerors installed and play that on voobly.com. Its a community of around 1400 players that survived after Microsoft closed the servers to boost AoE III sales.
