Can we wear the ribbons if we passed the class?

TGU has moved away from the ribbons system and now awards pins. If you passed a class prior to when we changed to the pins, you may wear the pin that is for that class. For a full list of those pins see here: SOP: TGU Training Awards (http://www.tacticalgamer.com/tactical-gamer-university/97946-sop-tgu-training-awards.html)

Ribbons are only good if they were earned before the pin system was instituted.

TGU ribbons and performance award ribbons are really 2 different things. A lot of debate has gone into developing the pin system to separate it from the ribbon system. Not to detract or diminish the value of TGU training, but ribbons are for performance in game and pins are for recognizing a players dedication to training to do it right in game.

We are staying with the pin system for TGU, but you can use the ribbon if you already had it before the pins were established as the training award system.

I kind of understand what you mean Nixon, the ribbons look a little cooler, IMO because they are a little bigger and more prominent. But I also understand TMan's point of keeping them separate (education vs. performance).

But how about if the pins were just made slightly larger, so they were a little more prominant? They are kind of small, in fact when I first started coming to the forums I never even noticed them. Not huge or anything, maybe not even the size of a ribbon, but certainly a little bigger than what they are now (maybe 1/2 to 3/4 ribbon size?). I dunno, maybe even same size as a ribbon? What do you guys think?

And I realize that would be a small amount of work to redesign the pins. Since I am not the type to suggest an idea and then subsequently not help carry out the work of it's implementation, I would volunteer to help work on the new pins should it be decided by the community to go in that direction.

Discuss.

edit: after posting, I did a few searches relating to pins, pin size, pin overhaul, etc. and didn't come up with anything, so apologies if this is an issue that has been raised before, I am relatively new to the community

I agree that ribbons are much cooler looking and more prominent, but combat actions in game kinda warrant that. I the real army, training ribbons are part of the uniform on the left side (US Army) worn along with all other ribbons for an individual. On the right you wear unit ribbons separate from the individual ones. But in real life, you wouldn't have more than 2 or so training ribbons - Non-Commissioned Officer Education System (NCOES), etc....

I don't want to change anything now, as i am still working to get pins as they are completed for all required topics.

The pins are approximately the same height as the ribbons are and approximately 1/4 the width of them. The size was decided by taking the ribbons into account. We made them the same height and then found a decent width for them that would allow the pins to stay in proportion so you could still see what it was the pin is depicting. Training pins should by no means be the same size as the ribbons that you awarded for action in game and by nomination from your peers.

The object is not to have half page sigs. There are those in the community who as of right now have at least 8 TGU training pins. If those pins were any bigger they would be a bit of an eyesore on the sigs and it would add large amounts of length to members sigs. I believe that the pins fit very nicely with the ribbons system and that no change is needed.

The SOP required all ribbons be exchanged for pins at the threat of having your sig removed. Choice was not an option and all TGU awards were standardized where possible to show parity between the different games.

Bronco, thanks!

I was not aware of that as it was before my time at TGU.

So, I stand corrected - the SOP overrides the ribbons of the past. Old ribbons need to be converted to pins.

The OLD training ribbon page is also now off. There is no reference to training ribbons within TG anymore.
