Yet another reason why genital mutilation (even this kind that is so commonly accepted in the United States) should be illegal. Religious reasons, as this story demonstrates, are not a valid defense for this practice...

Circumcision, like removal of the clitoris and vulva, serves no medical purpose.

I can testify that Cing has put a lot of thought into this...we discussed the morality of circumsision outside our platoon's building way back in...2001/2002?

Re: Rabbi probed for circumcised infants' herpes

I have 2 sons. Neither is circumcised. I always figured it would be up to them, once they were old enough to decide for themselves, if they wanted to have part of their penises removed.

However, I didn't know that herpes and blow jobs from old jewish guys came with the circumcision deal. I may have to change my stance.

Yeah, it must've been in 2000 or 2001... Not long after my son was born...

It's beyond me why anyone would want to cut off part of their son's penis for cosmetic reasons. Like Yojimbo, I don't think cosmetic surgery, especially surgery that would remove a third of the nerve endings from a sexual organ, is something that parents should inflict on their newborns... If my son later (like in his teen years? It depends on his maturity.) decides that he wants to cut off part of his penis, I'll support him and perhaps even pay for the procedure.

He used his MOUTH?! That is just unspeakably wierd. In fact circumcision is unspeakably wierd altogother.

Who was the first guy to go "D'ya know, I have never had a use for this bit, neither will my son. Let's lop it off!"

And why didn't the second guy slap him and go "I shouldn't even need to tell you to just leave your son's dick alone man."

I think I know.

The first guy was a rabbi trying to get IN and he got triple-dog dared to use his mouth.

Then the other rabbis were like "DUDE! That guy is so in!!!" and shalom and all the rest and eventually the fact that it was a hazing thing got forgotten. Sunrise, sunset.

Dunno how I missed this.

Funny, but I think you're attempting to dismiss a serious problem in the United States.

What's the problem? Circumcision in general, or rabbis using their mouths for such?

Re: Rabbi probed for circumcised infants' herpes

I don't have a problem with circumcision and disagree with comparing it to "female circumcision". To my knowledge there are no long-term health or sexual consequences to the former and lots of problems with the latter. The vast majority of circumcisions are performed in hostpitals by (insured and liable) doctors.

How is this a serious problem? What are the consequences other than some "ew" factor some folks seem to have? There may be no medical purpose, like ear piercings, tattoos, tans, etc., etc. But it's part of our culture and if there's no harm there's no foul. Get one, don't get one, whatever.

Now...this herpes guy using his mouth. I agree that should stop.

Re: Rabbi probed for circumcised infants' herpes

Are there practices where piercing is neccessary to prove ones faith? Surely it is difficult to justify circumcision or any for of mutilation on a non-consenting person?
