Jump School Help?

I'm stuck, fellas, and could use a clue. I passed the tower jump, but for some reason, I can't clear the live jump. I either:

-Flare too early, resulting in not enough speed to redirect the landing
-Flare too late, resulting in a bone breaking sound
-Fail to execute a proper landing.

What am I doing wrong?

You don't really have to flare in the game, just training, so it's been a while since I've tried but if I remember correctly this is how I did it: Once I got close to the ground, say within 5 seconds, I looked straight out at the horizon and started to flare when I was about 15-20 feet from the ground. Assuming you land in the circle that should do it.
