Joining Squads

This is KEY to the commanders success. If your not in a squad you might as well suicide.

Squads are the only way a commander can give a command out. Orders and what not and if your all in the same squad it doesn't help much either. I really wish in game comm's were working, as this would really help out alot.

For a map like the gulf of oman, on MEC side it's good to have multiple squads IMO.

How to get in a squad:
Caps Lock Key
Right mouse click to use mouse. Choose join or create squad.

Re: Joining Squads

apparently i found out last night you can also spawn with a squad leader regardless of where he is. I don't know the details and if it is "anywhere" but but i spawned with my squad leader at an enemy flag.

Re: Joining Squads

Well, you can spawn by your leader if he is on foot, but when he is in a vehicle you can only spawn by him if the vehicle is not full. This is because you spawn IN the vehicle so you get to gun, ride, shoot or whatever you do when you are in that spot.

^^^I could have sworn my leader was in a tank and it was full and I just spawned outside.

Re: Joining Squads

Yes there are many mysterious benefits to being in a squad that we cant even fully test yet. I remember I was flying around in the cobra and suddenly hastapee was in my cockpit with me and I nearly crashed out of surprise. Someone needs to design a bunch of shortcut keys for the command interface too...

Re: Joining Squads

I was noticing this too. It's really cool that you don't always have to run to your squad and a single good squad can be pretty effective.

On one server I think a squad leader turned a tank into a mobile spawn and got himself an endless supply of expendable engineers.

Re: Joining Squads

Maybe we should consider making it part of our server rules that you have to be in a squad.

Re: Joining Squads

A quick suggestion about squad leaders. As a squad leader attacking a location, you should attempt to survive as long as possible, since you are a mobile spawn point and your forward position can be so valuable. Squad members, you should do your utmost to protect (and heal) your leader.

My zen for the day.

Re: Joining Squads

And there should be at least one squad member, who is not the leader, that should be a medic to revive the leader.

We had a squad leader (SL) last night who would player the support role so we could get ammo from him. He would also occasionally play spec ops or anti-tank. Basically the SL stayed away from direct assault roles because he stayed back, gave orders and engaged only when needed.

This is exactly right. However I prefer to be a medic squad leader because I can heal myself as well as focus on keeping everyone else alive, while also letting them spawn in around me. Some may consider this too dangerous, but if you are being a true medic and staying out of sight you will live a lot longer than the conventional soldier. The medic also has grenades, which can give him an indirect combat strategy. I dont think anti-tank or spec ops is a smart role for the squad leader, because those guys conventionally are going up against the most dangerous threat to infantry, the tank.

An attack squad should be composed along the lines of

one leader medic (heal those damn marines, stay out of sight, coordinate strikes)

one anti-tank (RPG's work very well on bunkers/encampments too)

one sniper (covering fire that the opposing team never sees coming + incredibly useful claymores)

one assault (smoke grenade makes assault far safer + grenade launcher gives em hell)

one support (lay down the suppressive fire + keeps everyone supplied!).

Another thing.

ALWAYS AIM USING THE SIGHT! HEADSHOT IS NOT INSTAKILL!

The danger in this though is if the SL dies you HAVE to spawn at a base. Opposed to having a Med on hand to revive them. Sometimes those long runs can split a team enough to turn the tide of the game. I'd rather have the med on the second line. If the Med dies just spawn in with the SL. The SL and the Med should never be far from each other.

Re: Joining Squads

I'm not saying the SL can't be a medic, but there needs to be someone besides the SL that is a medic. That bit us in the arse a few times when that didn't happen.

I agree that the SL might not want to be anti-tank or spec-ops... so being a medic or support role works well. Maybe even the engineer.

Re: Joining Squads

IMPORTANT

you can also invite people to your squad, so if you see someone not on a squad, invite them. However with the current rate, half of the team or more is never on a squad so it makes for alot of inviting.
