Post Sniping....

Well, been trying this role out as of late. It doesn't seem to have any bullet drop, no scope sway ,etc. So it is basically a laser beam. However, one shot kills are a thing of the past. I think they really nerfed them to keep things playable. Just FYI....you CAN make shots nearly across the entire map. Bad news...you have to hit them several times.

yea I find that with the no sway of the scope ruins the whole art of sniping now anyone can pick one up and reek havok. They have to fix that and make it sway and give the bullets a more realistic range.

Re: Sniping....

Yea...not sure if I like the sniper kit....sure, alot of range and accuracy, but when you can't put a bullet in their head, and drop 'em,...well...not sure I care for that. Heh, and I learned NOT to hide in a bush where a buggy can get to you...find a place where land vehicles can't go (I did find a real good place, but I can't say, 'cause I don't want Tempus to know )

Re: Sniping....

aww, so what. they did an awsome job with the game otherwise it sounds like. like in css, you can jump 100,000,000 miles down into water and not get hurt at all.

Re: Sniping....

I cant get the sniperrifle to work for me, well not the m24 anyway, for some reason i hit more often with the SVD, probably becuase it has more bullets and pretty fast fire.

We can always keep our fingers crossed and hope! I'm also interested to know what the other weapons provide in terms of power and accuracy. I've not gotten used to sniping in BF2 yet simply because I keep compensating for movement and elevation which I guess I don't need to be doing!

EXACTLY! Sniping in BF2 is simply a point and click affair but they nerfed the damage done so it isn't a UBER weapon. *Yoda voice* "Balanced it is, yes?"

Also, I believe snipers have their place but in BF2 it is a totally different role. I think the snipers can report movement for the rest of the team instead of trying to plink pilots out of helis, etc. As with EVERYTHING else in this game it will be interesting to see how this role is best utilized.

Talking Re: Sniping....

now that you explained a possible role as a scout sniper instead of a one man army it doesn't seem that bad.

thanks I think i'll pick one up again and show what a socom 2 sniper can really do.

Just so you know. I'm not saying sniper role is good or bad. The team may NEED you in a different role. The question lies....can you effectively help your squad/ team by playing the sniper role. Yes. Can you survive alone? Yes. But other than spotting what good are you when you still have to hit someone several times?

Re: Sniping....

Do the bullets have instant impact, or do you have to lead the targets?

You have to lead, just like against any other moving target.

Re: Sniping....

they have to fix that because i'm used to playing AA and socom 2 on ps2 and they have scope movemnts depending if you're standing or in prone and depending on the sniper rifle you have, but they also have 1 shot kills to conpensate for the movements of the scope and I can tell you from experience that it's a much better system than the one that was utilized in BF2 because it takes practice and more skill to snipe making a sniper a valuble to any offensive or defensive force.

Re: Sniping....

sounds like there could be an annoying factor to sniping. If you can camp at the far edge of a map and snipe at the extreme edge of the scopes vision, nobody could tell where you were. So I guess if it takes several shots, they can still be effective albeit annoying.

Long distance sniping is annoying, but largely ineffective sofar. You can harry opponents, but not necessarily kill at long range-by the time you reload and line up the third fatal shot, they move.

The upside is that you get lots of points for aiding in kills that way.
