TeamSpeak SOP ideas

The game is designed so that squad leaders can communicate only with text.

I think gameplay can improve by having squad leaders communicate with voice, as two squads in the same area often have much to gain from each other.

I think it would be helpful if squad leaders were in the team-specific (USMC & MEC, not squad-specific) Teamspeak channels. No one else, except squad leaders, may speak in this channel.

You've got one key to speak with commander (in-game), one key to talk to your squad (in-game), and one key to talk to other squad commanders (Teamspeak).

Also, with the "Whisper to channel family" functionality in Teamspeak, we can all have a key which talks to everyone in all the BF2 TeamSpeak channels -- for between-game fellowship.

Thoughts?

Re: TeamSpeak SOP ideas

If it can be coordinated, I think this would be a good thing.
Note the big "if"; I'm quite doubtful as to the ability to pull this off in anything less than a clan/match type setting.

Once the server settles down a bit and we start seeing more regulars, then this could very well work. It might not be too far out of line to say that we may require squad leaders to be in teamspeak. It's an idea, not sure if it's good to require them though.

"Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine, regardless of the level of advantage, if any, it gives over the opposing team." -- Tactical Gamer Primer

Re: TeamSpeak SOP ideas

Wouldn't work too well for me. If I use a 3rd party chat program, I can hear both in and out of game VOIP, but I can only talk over the out of game program. My in game just won't transmit. I've had the same problem with two different sound cards while playing CS, and I found out this weekend that it's the same deal with BF2.

Re: TeamSpeak SOP ideas

That would be a common problem, I think. That's bad news for this idea.

Re: TeamSpeak SOP ideas

I've talked it over with my fellow admins on our CS:S server, and I think they passed on a solution (because it was a common problem) but I ignored it. For games that come with VOIP, I don't like using 3rd party programs for a wide variety of reasons. The post was a while ago, but I'll see if I can dig it up anyway and maybe test things out if there was an actual fix.

Re: TeamSpeak SOP ideas

Right. In the other games TG hosts, in-game voicecomms allow you to communicate with your team using, well, in-game voicecomms.

BF2 is the first game that presents teammates who stand to take real value from communicating with each other using voicecomms (SLs) and then presents them no way to communicate using voicecomms.

Hopefully EA will add a SL voicecomm key to solve this problem eloquently.
