Failed to install, please try installation again from the beginning
If you receive an error message window during your Battlefield 2 installation that says something similar to
"Failed to install, please try installation again from the beginning" make sure that your disc is clean. Yes, my brand new disc, straight from the case to the drive, handled by the edges only, had some kind of smudge on it. Not only that, but the CD packaging has all 3 discs stacked on one spindle. They could easily spin independently, with the face of one scratching the read surface of another. Brilliant. Also note that the pop-up that says: Question "Please insert disc 2, Retry?" [yes] [no] Is the normal prompt to insert the next CD, even though it looks somewhat like an error. Brilliant wording. Also, your product key is most likely NOT on the back of the CD/DVD case as the installer leads you to believe. Check the top of the rear cover of your game manual. Now you have 2 reasons to buy the DVD version: No odd disc-changing prompts, and less risk of discs scratched before you open the case. I was unfortunate that wally world, the only retailer in town to have it today, only carries the CD version.

You insert the next disc, and if it doesn't auto-detect it and continue installation, you hit yes to have it try your next CD. "no" probably cancels the installation.

Yeah, the installation people should be whacked. You actually have to enter a Company Name to complete the installation. *sigh* I just put "Bravo Company".
