Squad name Ideas

I like the custom squad names for some of the squads...Blackhawk...special forces... An idea for just basic squads is maybe put your name as the name of the squad especially if you like the role of squad leader. This way I know I'm joing a squad that has a leader who wants to be a squad leader rather than alpha or bravo which could be a crap shoot.

just an idea. Like "BigTony VoIP"

I'm running a squad with voice..type ..thing....Ok works slow today.

See you guys later.

My squad is always "TARPAN" so that people can find me easily.

Re: Squad name Ideas

I think the best idea for squad names would be focused around their capabilities rather than the name of a person.

It should be assumed that players on TG are here for teamwork.
It should be assumed that players are willing to use voicecomms.

I think team names such as "Defense", "Assault", "Covert", "Anti-Armor" would be more beneficial for player to know what squad they should join. Commanders also would know that the anti-armor squad would be a good squad to set up at the first flag outside the enemy UCB as it would be better prepared to take down any armor before it pushes too far into the battlefield.

The commander interface does not display squad names, though the commander's scoreboard will.

I typically name my squad "Blackhawk" for the very reason you specified, but names like "teamwork" and "voicecomm" can have merit, as the assumptions you listed are not always available to new guests on the server.

I understand that not all players on the server will understand that teamwork is required. I understand that not all players on the server will be willing to communicate with voicecomms. But when it comes down to it, players that won't work with their teams shouldn't be here. I would rather set up the environment to cater to the types of players we WANT to be here, rather than those that don't really fit what TG is all about.

Re: Squad name Ideas

You're not catering to the folks you don't want so much as you're catering to the folks who want you and don't know it yet.

You spend all day hopping pub servers and see a squad called "Teamwork".... your night just changed... for the better.

Yeah, they'll figure it out regardless of squad name if they stick around long enough, but, especially considering the fact that the commander interface doesn't show squad names, my point was that squad names like "teamwork" and "microphones" can have merit, at least on the public servers where we recruit.

On the private server, I see no need for such marketing tools, but consider too the following:

One significant problem with naming squads after roles is that squads can change roles during gameplay. I've often started as the "blackhawk" squad, or the "defense" squad, only to be told by the commander to engage in actions which suddenly make my squad name misleading.

I guess there's something to be said for Alpha, Bravo, etc. :/

You know, come to think of it, this is really unfortunate, as it would be nice to have a standard convention for squad names (enforced and documented in the SOPs), despite the merit I'm pointing out in the other approach.

Maybe we should make "squad name = role" an SOP and just "deal" with the imperfections in that approach?

I guess, but I would assume that actions speak louder than the text in a squad name when it comes to that sort of thing. They are joining a server that forces them to be in a squad, when that squad exhibits teamwork it matters not what the name is. The actions of the players, commanders and the squads would have a bigger impact, IMO.

Any of you new folks have any input on this one?
