So how many supporting members are there? I'm just curious.

You can click on "Members List" and count 'em if you want...

Re: Become a supporting member...

He was probably wondering more of BF2 supporting members, but I know that information isn't possible because it isn't tracked.

Well not everyone has a profile filled out of which games they play. Some play BF2 exclusively and some play it off and on. Every SM is supporting the BF2 servers whether or not they play. I didn't find an easy way to go about counting them as you can't sort by SM. So GL with that.

That's why i said it isn't possible to track BF2 'supporting member players'.

You can however see how many people have registered on the forums since the June 10th launch of the demo.

"Support game play in a near-simulation environment. Where the focus of play would not be solely on doing what it takes to win, but doing so utilizing real-world combat strategy and tactics rather than leveraging exploits provided to players by the design of the game engine, regardless of the level of advantage, if any, it gives over the opposing team." -- Tactical Gamer Primer

183.
give or take a couple.

which would generate about $1450/month in member fees (assumed the 8/mo fee for all).

Assuming it costs apo about the same as it does most other people to rent bf2 servers, he's paying something like 800/month for the bf2 servers alone. (the average cost to rent a bf2 server is $5/mo per player slot because of the bandwidth requirements)

granted, those last two numbers are glaring estimates.

Re: Become a supporting member...

However, TG does not rent servers from the game companys. TG has a professional server company they go to for their needs, which I'm sure makes it much more cost effective.

Sigh, I wish I could purchase it right now, but I am starting a new site which I have to drop all my dough in. THats ok, when it blows up and I'm rich I'll play BF2 all day while my peons do all the work.

Yes, but you have to balance that cost effectiveness with the fact that we have such a high quality connection. Multi-homed or tiered or something and all that technical stuff...

Bottom line: TG has lots of big ol' intarweb pipes leading directly to it, and that's why it pings so good to everyone...

Re: Become a supporting member...

Yup, TG has great internet location. Which costs somebody alot of money. Which means I'm sure Apo is still paying a rather nice chunk of change for his servers

Re: Become a supporting member...

Remember that TG is not a profit center for anyone. All money that comes in gets spent on the community in some shape or form. There are domains, forums, servers, etc. all that require paying for.
