Bottom line

Hey.

Been playing the demo for about a week, and reading some posts. This has to be one of the best games I've ever played, yet people constantly complain.
Should I buy? Are the bugs that bad?

Re: Bottom line

What are your specs?

Every game has bugs and it's always the people with problems that complain. Some facts are that EA isn't the best supporting publisher of games. Even though every company is about making a profit EA seems to do it by sacrificing quality (rushing it out the door, or dropping support on the title).

It is a fun game and if you enjoyed it I would still recommend picking it up. If you meet the minimum specs and all.

Any bugs can be ironed out (theoretically). Your system is what really stands in the way of answering that question.

Know that TG makes this game -- and most of the others it hosts/supports -- worth playing.

If you're able to run the demo with no problems I think you will be able to handle the retail version. When installing the retail, don't change the install path if possible as some folks are having problems installing the patch when they change the install folder.

My complaints center around bas business practice. EA won't allow unranked servers to unlock all weapons for everyone because they want you to buy/play on their ranked servers. Any server that does unlock everything for everyone gets punished by being delisted. EA releases a patch for the game that fixes several non-important bugs (like giving the ability to rebind the left mouse button) while failing to address some really up front issues (such as allied troops appearing with red names). Aside from hardly fixing things that matter, the patch introduces a server-side memory leak and EA's official response is "reinstall the game to version 1.0".

The people I play with are the reason that I keep playing; it's the same with every game I've played from CS:S to FFXI to MechWarrior to BF2. If I didn't have good communities to fall back on the game would be absolute crap because, from a standalone point of view, it's broken through and through. I'll complain until I'm blue in the face, but I keep playing due to good server communities- not because the game is the second coming.

So long as you can run the demo with no problems, I'd recommend buying the full version and hopping on the TG servers.

Me either. Some problems with some EA software called Battlefield 2 though. Still in memory after exiting game. Not reading DVD. Not being able to use task manager to remove it from memory. The very occasional drop to desktop from ingame. None of these problems occur enough to be an issue and they all can be fixed with a reboot.

i agree with Tarpan......EA doesnt really seem to care about its products after its released. if people like TG ran EA it would be an amazing enterprise. Im not sure how EA can stand behind there ranking system when alls you have to do is look at the leader board and see how flawd it really is...
